I'd say that on an average depending upon as many have stated above, if your preamps volume pot offers enough gain?, then all should prove well matched, it's sometimes harder to say with passive preamps rather then active one, yet it has often been the norm to use linger signal cables and power cords with shorter lengths of speaker cable, and in some parts of the world............, some listeners have weighted in on the different sonic merits of using long ICs as opposed to one under 1M.

Yet as with most things as they relate to audio, it's always a better option to borrow any given length of desired cabling through the Cable Company, or if nothing else ask the seller for a 30 money back trail period, as most seem to understand that not every cable matches to ones system, and should honor this gesture and if not............, it's best to look elsewhere.

I'm kind of surprised no one has given you the technical details, and I can only speak generally, not in the specifics.

Ok, as long as your amps have a high input impedance and you choose a cable that doesn't have unusual specs, [I think it is capacitance that matters, please someone correct me, if that is wrong] long cables aren't a problem. Some cables will cause some premature roll off of high frequencies.

And as I believe was mentioned a passive preamp will often require short cables, but an active preamp usually has no such problems. Balanced cables with XLR plugs are less prone to noise problems.

All that said, I run 15ft non shielded single ended [rca] cables between my pre and power amp, with no problems.

I personally prefer long interconnects and short [8ft] speaker cables, if I have the option.
