Mapleshade Golden Helix Speaker Cables (mid-break in report)

 How would I start a review of the Mapleshade Helix Speaker cables what do I say, the specific description, word, phrase, adjective, expletive.

I am pissed.

So much of my hard earned money was spent on all kinds of lamp cord, yellow power cords, expensive exotic blends, color ad cables.

The list goes on a bit but you get the idea.

The Mapleshade Helix speaker cables just do the job.

Like an old Garbage Man, rolling the cans with utmost familiarity and ease.

The scale.. this is what I notice and like.

These cables provide an insight into the mix, into the source, into the cut whatever you call it.

I can just make out Faraday as the music snakes it's way down these amazingly minimalist speaker cables.

The twisted integral derivation of the wind.

A purpose, the winding of the cable, like a pair of braids on a special girl, the music makes it from one end of the cable to the next.

If you are financially skeptical, just spend the money on a few tanks of Gasoline.

Or be one lucky dude who knows someone who owns a pair, and is able to witness the improvement.

Any multi-stranded, snake oil Poly-Teflon coated steroidal fancy cloth covering special of the day.


These other cables are like a soup, they blend.

The Helix just transfer music from one end of the circuit to the other.

Did I mention I changed religion?

Back at 100 hours with more....

 This is just too much fun. The Plus will be even greater fun I assume.

I have enjoyed this product more than anything else I can think of.

Went from casual listening to full-up volume over the last days and the music just stays coherent, until the parameters of the Dyna PAS3x and ST-35 can no longer hold together.

I can play half way on the Dyna volume and my Njoe Tjoeb CD player at full volume on some CD's, but most CD's require I pull back on the CD player a bit to shave off a bit of edge, this happens around #10-14 on the CD Output Level. The gain scaling on Vintage Preamps is lower than what today's digital sources provide.

My TEAC X20R was marvelous the other night allowing me to really play with the Dyna volume and control the noise floor into a very relaxed sound. I played Question of Balance 7-1/2 ips Moody Reel and also Deutsche Gramphon Sibelius Reel at 7-1/2 ips.

The only other speaker cables I have had the chance to hear and recall similar sonics was the Tara Labs RSC Prime. The RSC Prime were a dry sound, extreme detailed, coherence, and really dug deep into any mix, even Deep Purple sounded clean, and Symphonics had their full scale.

But the Mapleshade Helix are a bit less analytical, almost to the point of being a tad sweeter than the RSC Prime.

Where these types of great cables shine is when the mix is complex and heavy.

They almost seem to allow the loudspeakers-amp interface to de-construct the mix and separate the instruments, voices and percussion.

Then the music is propelled from the cones and tweeters as a balanced whole, complex but tame.

Hard to find the right words...

Of course my next pair of Helix will be the upgraded treated version.

I envision owning three sets of these cables as I have three systems.

After the rotational program starts at the 100 hour point at home I am looking forward to a different experience on each system.

As I roll the Helix through my systems after the 100 hour mark, I will hope to be able to listen and appreciate what it does on my

-DIY Kismet 2A3 SE Amp with Aikido 6SN7 Preamp
-Atma-sphere M60/MP3/Druid system.

I have an Oppo105 that hasn't seen any playtime as I have been using my Njoe Tjoeb CD player (no upsampler).

 The first of the Helix I used was with a rebuilt ST-70 and then a couple different pres including a stock, NIB PAS3x. Then went to a Plus set bought used. I remember being knocked out by the Helix and even more so by the Plus. Not a staggering difference, but a very noticeable and positive one.

Taken different paths since then but wouldn't be opposed to re-trying the Helix at some point.
Not many other speaker cables (of many I've tried) I'd say that about.

 I love to have fun with our Hobby and as an inmate, try to convey my experiences with levity and some joy. If I can contribute to this forum with actual experiences and make them a bit funny, all the better.

 Hmm..after using their other stuff for a bit, your insight and others, PLUS their in my budget?-CHEAP!
After giving another affordable cable set a try, I may get a pair.I would also try it on the REL sub if one were available.

Their interconnects and even the ridiculous power cord(not permanently in the system) are doing great things in my tubed system. I don't know about the claims of comparing the finest cables, but certainly entry level stuff.
