Hi Guys,

Anyone remember the sonic characteristics of MIT MH-750 speaker cables from the 1980s? They are without the "boxes". Would they still be competitive?

Thanks!

I had a pair in the early 2000's. Nice cables but dated, I got them as part of a package of components that I purchased. They were surpassed by my MIT Shotguns (with boxes) which I had for about 3 months when I came upon a deal on a set of MIT Magnum M3's. I had all 3 at the same time and the difference between them was noticeable. I felt that the Shotguns were a nice step up for small $$$ at the time. The Magnums were another step up but without the deal I got, would have been considerably more $$$. The Music Hose had a bottom end that was slow and wooly when compared to the other 2 cables.

MIT Shotguns are still regarded.

I have been running MIT MH-750 Shotgun cables (no boxes) with my Thiel 2.2s since the mid 90s. Up until I purchased them I was sampling cables on a regular basis for several years. After hearing these I had no reason to look further. (The "shotgun" name comes from the fact that they consist of a pair of MH-750 (with a short 3rd length of MH-750 at one end)). I also have a pair of MH-750 which don't compare to the MH-750 Shotgun and shouldn't as I think that the retail on the latter was $2000+ vs less than half for the former. The MH-750 sound vs MH-750 Shotgun is less involving as in less of the midrange magic & perhaps a little thin in the midrange compared to other cables. My amps primarily are tube ranging from 35-115 w/ch. For interconnects I use MIT 330 musiclink of the same vintage (no boxes) which I am hard pressed to find anything that sounds better for under $500 / meter pair current price.
