Power cable newb question

How important is the power cable for switching amps?
Would something like the Shunyata Venom 3 be an upgrade over the stock power cord?

 For my Channel Islands D-200s, they do not seem to store much energy, so my 7 ga. power cords make a huge difference (better than 12 Ga too). So much, in fact, that the stock cord is like buying a new car w/ bald tires. I figure that he leaves it up to the owner to choose power cords. Using the stock cord is nowhere near their best sound, especially bass.

 Yes, an after-market PC will be an upgrade over the stock PC.
s to which brand(s) sounds the best, it is a trial-and-error process.

 I must admit that the after-market Cable/Power Cord segement(s) are my niche' and fave part of our wonderful hobby. Do they make a difference? You bet your ass they do!

 ... sometimes a DIY cord can offer even more upgrade bang for the buck.

If you have the time and inclination, perhaps a look over the archives here and in the "Tweaks" section might be just the ticket.

Any questions about connectors or wires? Just ask, and guys like Duster and others will gladly offer their superb advice based on their wealth of experience. Many years ago I took the plunge, and had some real fun and excitement experimenting.

But if you're not into experimenting, or simply don't want the bother, then musetap's simple advice is, as I said, 100% spot-on.

 I went with the Morrow Audio MAP1 Power Cords for my Musical Fidelity M1PWR amps run in mono.

It's hard to exactly describe the improvement. The cables break in slowly and the changes slowly occur. I can say this, I end up staying up too late listening to music now. I keep saying to myself, "just a few more songs". So that's a good sign.

If I had to describe the improvement, I don't think it's the usual things you would expect from power cords (or maybe it is). 1) better sound stage, and 2) less shrill orchestra violins playing forte, 3) more detail/dynamics - maybe it's better transients that I'm hearing.

Well worth the cost.

 For future reference, Morrow does offer burn in services for his cables.
Yes, those are improvements a good PC can make.
