Anybody have a suggestion as to where I might find a 1M balanced (XLR) pair of these German-made cables (by HMS elektronik) in the U.S.? I'd be deeply appreciative. New or used.

Yeah, I know you didn't ask for an opinion about them, but here it goes anyway.

Thankfully, was able to get rid of them without losing money.

As I recall, I paid $450 for used balanced set - and in used prices, in my opinion, it's nowhere near what I would call a good value. "Meh" was my impression. The impedance matching circuit is a useless gimmick, too.

... my experience has been different. I've had a pair for some 6 years and never found their equal, thus have been shifting it from the CD/linestage link to the phonostage/linestage link and this is really getting tiresome. Never bothered with the impedance matching circuit. I'd be interested to know what you replaced them with.

Thanks so much, Earl. I'd like to find a pair in the U.S. before attempting to buy from Germany, but it's a definite fall-back in case I fail.

I tried as many search tricks as I could but nothing domestic new or used. At least that site can be viewed in English. Good luck!

I remember those. There was a guy named Tekunda out of Florida who sold them here in the US. Do a search for Tekunda here in the forum.

Oh yeah, I remember it well. Tekunda (Christian Brouwer) had a long-running search for the "best-sounding cables" here on AA, found the HMS Gran Finale to be his personal holy grail and then, wonder of wonders, became the U.S. HMS importer. This generated a small-scale hue and cry about his and the wires' credibility, and in the ensuing flap, HMS pulled the line from him At least that's the way I remember it.

They ARE great cables, IMHO, having heard exactly one pair of the things.

Found something just as good, IMO. Actually found it on AA classifieds. A pair of Paul Laudati's Clear Day balanced interconnects. I've compared them with the pair of HMS Gran Finale ICs I already have, and as far as I'm concerned there's no point in continuing to obsess over the HMS stuff. As ever, Paul is a joy to deal with.

It didn't hurt that the Clear Days were about 1/4 the cost of the HMS :-)

I appreciate your interest, but I'll have to think about that for a while.
