Hi i have decided that i need galvanic separation from the source (pc)
In the end it will be the best and easiest way to tame some ground loops.
This said, i need some suggestion of decent toslinks, possibly from ebay because it is easier for me to purchase there, and with metal connectors ... i do not like plastic connectors.
I would like something tested with good results in a revealing system.
Thanks a lot.

Kind regards,
bg

You can also get galvanic isolation by using 75 ohm isolating trafos, a better solution than toslink imho.

Hi and thanks but the source has only optical out or RCA analog outs
So i have to stick with toslink.
Using RCAs i get noise ... ground loops i guess
By the way i have understood that someone here is using toslink also in high level set-ups. So it seems feasible.
Thanks again.
Kind regards,
bg

This is the best sounding Toslink cable, IME:

Lifatec Silflex Glass Optisilk Toslink digital optical cable (German-made 470 strands borosilicatec glass optical audio data fibers polished to 1 micron optical finish, all metal connectors, Optisilk jacketing). Worldwide shipping is available:

ITEM # TLTLG-OS - TOSLINK / TOSLINK PREMIUM SILFLEX GLASS CABLES with OPTISILK JACKETING:

BTW, if you are serious about using Toslink for a computer audio application, I fully recommend the use of a Monarchy Audio DIP (Digital Interface Processor) placed in the signal chain between the computer and DAC.

Here's text from a report I wrote:

-snip-

Among the list of audiophile listening cues that are improved include a more open and expansive soundstage, images presented with better resolved spatial cues, and clearly improved ambient information retrieval. On a macro-level, I dare to say there's better PRAT (or so my body tells me such). Dynamics sound more natural, less shouty. Overall, there seems to be less "digititis" in the presentation; less "digital distraction" if you will. A lowered noise floor is quite apparent. Timbral information is less obscured by an unmusical vagueness, while a more authoritative bottom end comes into play. Images have more bloom without added warmth (as-in increased tonal bloom). The leading edge takes on a far more obvious yet sonically benign role in the presentation without sounding edgy — this factor alone makes the Monarchy Audio DIP 48/96 Upsampler a big winner in my audiophile book. I might add that I find the sonic signature of the device to be nominally transparent/neutral to my ear. However, YMMV.

Monarchy Audio is going out of business, so now is the time to buy one. Deep discount is available for a refurbished model. Worldwide shipping is available.

Hi Mr Duster and thank you very much indeed for the valuable advice
I decided for the toslink to get grounds isolation between the source and the rest of the chain
I like to get silence when there is no music.
Thanks a lot again.
Kind regards,

Yes, I use a digital optical output which provides electrical isolation between the computer and the audio system(s). The Monarchy Audio DIP is a must-have when using a Toslink cable, IMHO.

Note: The Monarchy Audio device is a DIP (Digital Interface Processor), not to be confused with a DAC (Digital to Analog Converter). The DIP optimizes the digital optical signal and outputs a conditioned (precision clock output) signal via 75 ohm S/PDIF digital electrical output. A digital coaxial cable then connects the DIP to a DAC. The result is a much better sounding digital to analog conversion, IME.

Hi and thanks again for the valuable advice
Yes my main goal is to get "electrical isolation between the computer and the audio system"
When i put the pc in the chain i get noise.
I have even bought a little scope not yet received to try to see which kind of noise is.
As the electrical power connections are a little crowded i think it should be a ground loop or similar.
Thanks a lot again.
Kind regards,

Toslink sucks. Virtually always. That's been my experience. I've also tried the Lifatec cable and it doesn't change this state of affairs.

I've found isolating via something like the iFi iUSB device and interfacing via S/PDIF or USB is always preferable to optical.

Hi and thank for the advice
I understand from what i have read here in the forums that optical cables are not very popular.
I will try also the approach you recommend
I intend to modify a usb to spdif interface i have in the power supply.
In order to improve isolation i will use a different transformer.
Thanks again.
