Hi all,

I recently acquired some used speakers on e-Bay. When I went to audition them, the owner had used exotic large-diameter stranded copper cables. The cables were terminated with banana plugs.

I noticed the banana connectors were split down their length so, I assume, they could be spread a little to ensure good contact with the terminal into which they were inserted. The metal from which these connectors were made was very thin.

Based on the idea that a chain is only as strong as its weakest link, I began to wonder what benefit would be derived from such massive cables if they are terminated in paper-thin banana connectors?

Thank you,

George

The conductive length of the banana plugs amounts to nothing compared to the cables. The most important thing is that they fit firmly into the sockets.

The weird thing is that a very good standard do exist in the pro applications (speakon) and almost nobody use it for hifi apeakers
This standard is designed for high currents
I am not saying that is the best solution in the world but it is both effective and cheap
To cheap to be good ?
Kind regards,
bg

George-

upon considering connectors and connections, always make sure the it is a firm/tight fit.
