Hi,
I seek advices on 3m long XLR interconnects between my pre and power amp, which are ARC LS25/II and 100.2.
I now use RCA 'el cheapo' cables but I'd like to go balanced.
But cables are expensive and 3+3m are... even more expensive.
What cables would you suggest that can be satisfying but rather unexpensive ? Some bang for the bucks, if any ?
OK, Daniele, define 'expensive'. Well, I mean no more than say 300-350$ for the pair (preowned is ok).

thanks, ciao

thanks, driver.
unfortunately looks like Mogami has no italian distributor and I'm afraid international shipping fees could be too high to keep it convenient.
moreover, and what's more, I'm not sure if you mean: buy the cable and the connectors and then build it yourself.
I never built a cable in my life and I'm aware that I could give life to an awful and bad monster if I tried...

thanks, ciao

I was very surprised how well a 35' run of Monoprice XLR cables worked for me between pre and power. They glared for about 48 hours and then settled in to what seems to be quite neutral. Temper that with the fact that I use Cardas speaker cables, so there may some offsetting balance going on.

See ya. Dave

They build the cable for you. You go through the menu & pick out what you want in regards to length, color, ends, etc.

I just checked the shipping calculator & it was around $24

So, you're looking at well under $100, which is way below what you mentioned as a price limit.

I use a pair of the Mogami W2549 w/Neutrik Pro-Fi RCA's for my TT & it does a good job. I'm getting ready to build a pair of DIY to compare with, which would retail for much more as a commercial product.

@Duster: thanks, I know those VdH cables, I also tried in my setup the RCA version, but they're not my cup of tea...
thanks anyway

@driver: interesting... thanks again

@Elizabeth: I often heard about Kimber Hero, but nevere tried; I thought they were too expensive, in a 3m run, but I never checked: I will

Silver Resolution Reference Balanced Interconnects.
No more than $279 for 8 foot pair of balanced. They sound great between my Wyred for Sound Amp and Pass labs preamp. Can't go wrong. International shipping another $36.

..just inquisitive why you would want XLR (balanced) interconnects if the rest of your system is not. There will be little if any advantage, unless the whole system is balanced. ...look at Anti-Cables. I might have some if you want.

The preamp is balanced out and the power amp is balanced in.

Mogami is great for guitars! Audiophiles don't use Mogami.

What do you mean, exactly, sudz1234@yahoo.com ?
That Mogami (and pro cables generally) are not good for hifi ?

of his posts will be contentious in nature & are designed to stir the pot.

Mogami is excellent cable & is used in a wide variety of applications.

MIT Proline 3 are quite good.

As someone mentioned, you have to have internally differential balanced gear to get the sound improvement, otherwise like much pro-gear, all you have is ability for longer runs.

You should bargain hunt and buy used cables, or the discontinued cables. Even the Monster M1000 XLR cable is a good buy for $100.

Mogami Gold with Neutrik XLR's today for $238, tax included. Very good impressions with but a couple of hours signal through them. Looking forward to how they morph or not over the next few days.

See ya. Dave

I let them run-in for several days. While they have a warmer sound, it's also a bit muddied. I prefer the resolution and openess of the Monoprice balanced cables.

Thinking about moving my gear around to give my Golden Cross RCA interconnects a go for comparison. It's been a long time since they've been in the system.

See ya. Dave
