I've been working away at a new forum with the help of php expert David Bliss. This AA forum has served us well for ten years. However I feel that the current generation of forum software is much more suitable to our needs than this somewhat dated format. I've spent the last couple of years working with a forum package called Simple Machines Forum for the Tape Project, and it's categorization capability combined with my ability to go in and tweak as I see fit has proven to be very useful. So I have set up a new forum on the Bottlehead server that uses SMF. It's still rough around the edges. We are tweaking the appearance and still coming up with useful categories, but I will call it 90% there. Hopefully folks will find the forum categorizations by kit and so on much more fruitful when there is a question about a particular product. Since this current forum has been up for 10 years there is obviously some great material to be harvested. So I plan to keep this forum up at least through the end of 2009 so we can all plow back through the archives and dig up nuggets that can be transferred to the new forum. I will appreciate it if folk send me a link to an archived post they find useful, and then I can get the info transferred over to the new forum in the most useful form. Please have a look and feel free to register. AND PLEASE MAKE NEW POSTS ON THE NEW FORUM. I have a request to make this old forum read only as soon as that can be accomplished. There may be a little confusion for a bit with two forums up at once, but we will be working on a way to make the transition a smooth as possible over the next few weeks. |

I only hope it has a more intelligent search function. |
