Hello all...

A few days ago I bought a used Weiss DAC202. I thought it would be interesting to compare to my AN Kits 4.1LE DAC, and also, it has a headphone jack which I need. I've connected it to my AN Kits L4 preamp, and it produces a very noticeable hum. My AN Kits DAC4.1 connected with the same interconnects to the same RCAs is silent.

Does anyone have experience with a Weiss DAC202 and an AN Kits preamp?

Thank you

Dave

Hi Dave,

I have been using my L3 Pre with AN UK double C-core output transformers with Weiss DAC2 for the past two years or so. I was using Kit One at first (which did not have the hum problem) but as soon as I added the Preamp, I got the hum problem which took several months of try and error to fix. The hum only appeared when I was listening to my DAC2. No other source connected to the pre-amp had the issue. It was quite disturbuing and annoying to say the least.

If you are using a computer as a source connected to DAC202, then I would suggest that you check connections to the computer such as LAN cable, HDMI cable etc. to see if any may be creating a ground loop.

Also, isolating grounding (not sure if this the right term) with a capacitor and a resistor (such as seen in the photo on the ANK website) of the pre-amp helped. This made the hum intermittent in my case.

Ike

Hello IkeH - Thanks for the suggestions. I checked with Brian and he said that my preamp includes the grounding that you referenced.

I am using a server, and I checked all of my cables. I use USB output on the server to a USB-to-S/PDIF converter, and I checked those connections too. I've also changed power cords, switched to different interconnecs and moved the Weiss to another shelf - and no improvement at all.

I will check wih Brian for suggestions.

Thank you

Dave
