My Jolida finally died, and I decided to move to something else. Ended up with a new Rotel A-12. Been playing CD's and am quite please. However, when I put a vinyl record on my TT, I had almost no sound. Then it dawned on me that the Rotel has a MM phono stage, and my Audio Technica cart is MC. I used a Heed phono stage to run my vinyl with the Jolida amp.

Can I bypass the Rotel internal MM phono stage, and use the Heed? If so, can you give me the base directions.

If not, I guess I'll get a new cart, and sell the Heed.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Just plug the Heed phono preamp into any spare aux input on the Rotel.

Do not connect the Heed to the phono inputs of your Rotel. As BCR correctly explains, you must connect the Heed to an auxiliary or other line-level input.

Good luck,

do you know the output from the AT MC cartridge and the gain from the Heed? Just Curious, the Heed should be connected to the AUX or line level input as explained.

I will do as instructed. I did not know if this would automatically bypass the built in MM phono stage.
I'll report back.

Many thanks

Did as instructed. Vinyl volume is louder but I'd say still about 75% of the equivalent setting when switching to CD. Is this normal?

Yes, that's the way it works..., posted on January 16, 2017 at 16:27:43
As long as you do not have to max out the volume pot (to listen to vinyl) you are good to go.

With my current setup I need to increase the volume pot(s) 3 steps for vinyl (which is approx an 8 dB increase) and I'm content with the sound.

My old CAL CD deck has Major output, therefore the difference in volume using a likewise, Rather high output, MM cartridge

That's what volume pots do.
