older YBA amp service

 I've had my YBA amp and preamp for over 20 years and at some point they may need service. It appears YBA has sold out to the Chinese and I have little confidence parts will be available for the older models. I know they made and used their own capacitors and resistors, some say they were better and some say they're not better than other brands of components made today. My question is when I need service will it matter if I use genuine YBA parts and have it serviced by a YBA tech if they even exist.

 Having done dozens of YBA pieces, I know you will not find exact replacement parts for them. However despite the company line, most of the parts were just relabeled standard parts. The caps were ERO Reoderstien. I've found them to be okay, but can be improved upon. The biggest problem is the footprint of the connections on the caps. The originals are rather non-standard, but new ones can be made to fit.
Only the transformers would be a problem, but may still be available from the distributor. I have never seen one fail though.
With all that said, YBA are very reliable and should last many more years.

 There is a recent thread on the Audiogon forum re YBA repairs. The distributor weighs in.

 That's good to know about the caps, I couldn't imagine they reinvented the wheel when there were good quality components made by very reputable companies. I never gave the transformers a thought, I have a Marantz receiver from the early 70's with the original transformer. Unless the transformer was made poorly I imagine I'll be ashes blowing in the wind by the time anyone would have to worry about that.

 Thanks Eric, I contacted tmh audio and they told me it was serial # specific. That didn't sound right so I thought I would ask around.

 I worked for a dealer and found the same to be true. A competent tech can handle them even if he's never worked on a YBA. Definitely the transformers would be hard to get but I've never seen one fail either.

 Transformers don't fail often but the point is if it does fail and you can't get one you have a door stop.

 It hasn't reached that point and hopefully the transformers won't fail but this amp is dual transformer. They made a single transformer model so why couldn't I have a competent tech wire it to use the one good transformer?
