I assume the Thalia II is newer than the Thalia I. Does anyone know when the II version was made? What is the difference between the I and the II? Which is the more desirable model if there is a preference? sonic differences?

Thanks

The Thalia was their entry level pre. Next up was the Thoebe and the top line was the Thaedra. The Thaedra and Thalia had a version one and a two. You can find the owners manual w/specs and the schematic free online at Davids Audio. At this point regardless of the differences between the two versions it would be more important and yield the most improvement to replace old caps and parts like RCAs and put in an IEC so you could use a good power cord.

Although there were some differences in the audio circuit the biggest difference is in the power supply. The "I" had an IC in the power supply regulator circuit that was prone to failure, the IC is available if you search but is expensive. The "II" had a completely discrete power supply.

An ex-GAS employee posted some of the schematics and alignment procedures on DIYAUDIO a while back.
