I've been looking for a stereo pre-amp with bass output ("2.1"). On my short list is this preamp, and also a Parasound.

The initial plan, after listening to Floyd Toole's lectures on Youtube, is to send the stereo to a pair of JPB LSR308 powered speakers and a mono sub signal to an older powered HSU sub. Inputs would be TV, DVD/CD from an older Oppo unit (but sticking to 2 channels plus sub), maybe a tuner and probably a turntable.
In reading about 2.1 set ups I read somewhere, no I can't remember where or the details, that in some situations you will get no bass. Mono summed bass situation? Maybe this was using HT Bypass?

So basic questions: does this preamp have any issue with getting no bass with some uses? Is it a good choice for my needs?
Bonus: Have I drunk the cool-aide regarding Mr. Toole's reporting?
Thank you.

Nearly all program material has summed bass below 200-300 Hz. There will be no loss running a summed right and left subwoofer from the Emotiva XSP-1 in any mode, including the home theater bypass.
