Hi guys!

I am too lazy to write a review about these excellent amplifiers.
I just want to add how great they play music in my system (Omega Alnico monitors, Technics 1200 mk2 turntable, Plinius Koru phono stage, and a Budgie SUT, ortofon HMC 30 cartridge, Bifrost DAC and a Decware CSP3 preamp). Their rated power is just 25 w/c, but is enough to make my speakers really sing. What a deal only $1198 delivered to my door by Mr Sanders, actually FEDEX.

Great control of all frequencies specially the midrange and all the superlatives that audio reviewers like to write about it.

No need to buy a Chinese amplifier.

Highly recommended!!

Dan

Quicksilver gear is outstanding. All my gear is Quicksilver and Mike is a pleasure to deal with. The stuff just never breaks. A true bargain in audio !
Enjoy!

Hello DanS,

I have a pair of 8417's converted over to use EL34/KT77. I upgraded the coupling capacitors to Auricap it made these amps even more musical, with a better soundstage and cleaned up the mids and highs. Great amps and I keep them as a backup.

I choose to upgrade to the Quicksilver V4's. What a step up! Better bass, huge soundstage and musical. They have a marvelous mid range presentation and the highs are clean and clear without any ringing or shrillness. I really enjoy these amps.

I also bought them for their reliability and the fact that Mike Sanders gets such glowing reviews. I believe these amps are some of the most underrated and best value amp you can buy.

Just my 2 cents I am sure you will continue to enjoy these amps.

Regards

Richard

You may get better resolution and cleaner highs with KT77s, if you like the EL34. The mini mites were on my upgrade path and i loved them for the couple of years I had them until I moved into SET and class A PP triodes.

I own a pair of Mid Monos, they were without a doubt the best value for the money of any gear I own. Built like a tank, rock solid reliable, and fantastic sounding......Mike is a great guy to deal with too.

I love these amps but the speaker connections kill me.

Isaak,
I can understand your frustration with the speaker connections, for me is not a great deal.

My Omega speakers have a 95 db sensitivity more than 25 watts is an overkill.

I took delivery of a JJ KT77's set, I was using KT66's and I noticed right away that KT66's sound better. I am going tho give the JJ's more breaking time to check by how much they can improve.

Dan

Hey Dan:

Don't get me wrong, I adore Quicksilver products, I have owned them and I have friends who I steered that away and years later they are still thrilled.

The speaker connections are just a bit of a pain, but not a deal killer. For the price, not much to complain about.

Van Alstine was a bit the same way with the captive, crappy power cords. But he came around and now they offer IEC inlets.

Great news about the tubes. It would be cool if they could accommodate KT120s!

Congrats! I'd love to try QuickSilver someday but probably in something a bit more robust in terms of power.

I've had Cary, CJ, ARC, Manley, Rogue Audio, and probably a couple other tube amps that I'm forgetting but I've always wanted to try QuickSilver.

Enjoy!

Hey Abe!
You should try this one!

What happened to your Rogue Cronus?

Having owned numerous tube amplifiers over the years, I've liked each and every one in different ways. The Quicksilver Silver 88s I purchased almost a year ago I like in ALL ways. Throughly engaging and musical with a purity in the midrange not unlike a good SET design. They are just amazing amplifiers and for the money I know of no better value for an American made tube amplifier than Quicksilver.

If you plan to keep this amp, replace the electrolytics on the PS and bypass cap on the cathode. Replace the coupling caps (film).

If you plan to keep this amp for a long time, try Audio Note (UK) electrolytics and film caps. They have different lines for both types of caps, from more expensive to a lot more expensive.

Thanks Frihed 89 for your suggestions.
I just got these amps two weeks ago but I am thinking about keeping them.

Where do you get those Audio Note capacitors you mentioned above?

I've had my Silver 88s for almost 5 years and play them about an hour a day at least. Just had to replace the capacitors in each. They push my Reference 3A Grand Veenas and this is a combination that is superb.

I am in Europe and have an dealer right around the corner. What they don't have in stock i order from the UK from hifi collective. I have pretty much lost my US AN connections, except for Amherst Audio, but Bob the owner doesn't stock components.

You might have to contact US Distributor/dealer: at the URL, or maybe Parts Connexion?

So very tempting! But my home office listening room is too small for those lovely monoblocks. I''ll have to wait 'til we finish the basement with a more appropriate listening room. I've been lazy and dragging my feet on that project.

Yes, I still have the Cronus Magnum integrated with KT120 tubes as well as the Ayre AX-7e SS integrated.

I need to find a "cooler" amp for the summer time. My VTA ST70 is GREAT!!!! but in the summer time heat IS a concern.

I was considering a solid state amp. But I just can't get my heart into that!

So maybe a set of smaller mono's with the EL84 tube would do the trick. When I use my Sherwood S5000 it doesn't heat up the room too much.

Is your ST-70 really that hot? Thought I'd read somewhere it runs a little cooler than the Dyna St-70 and that never seemed too bad to me.

Of course it may depend on your room size, how open to other rooms, and type of AC if utilized I suppose.
