Hi, looking for a new amplifier. Has anybody auditioned the Rogue Stereo 100 in comparison to the Parasound Halo 21? I realize one is solid state, and one tube. Thanks.

You are sort of comparing apples to oranges but here goes. The Rogue amp is $3500 as compared to $2500 for the Parasound amp. You are talking 100 watts for the Rogue and 250 watts SS for the Parasound. I have the Rogue 100 and I find it to be perfect for my setup. I swapped out the original power tubes and I am now running Genalex KT77s. I think this ideal.

Yes substituting out the Russian KT120 was a good move. That's the beauty of the Rogue, it accepts numourous output tube types and allows you to change imput and driver tubes. You can make it sound pretty much how you want from rich and tubey to fast and detailed. You can't change the Pass so you better like it cause you are stuck with it.
I would do some serious listening to find the sound you like.

What speakers/pre-amp are you using? In regard to those 2 amps, I've only heard the Rogue Stereo 100. A superb amp to my ear.

Hi; Sony XA-777ES SACD player, Audio Research SP-17 preamp, McCormack DNA-225 amp, Vandersteen 3A Signature speakers with Vandersteen 2WQ subwoofers. Gonna sell the McCormack.

Had it since 2003, tank like construction, quiet and smooth cd drawer, sounds good. Guess I like it !!!

I'll chime in. I am well familiar with the Rogue Stereo 100. Top to bottom it is exceptional. I'd be hard pressed to name something it doesn't do well.

For what it's worth, I'd suggest thinking about replacing your Sony first. Digit processing has advanced a great deal in the time you've had it.

Going from a McCormack to a Parasound sounds like a bit of a sideways move. Both good products for sure, but aren't they in essentially the same price and power range? Which sounds the best would depend on one's personal preference I would think. In regard to the Rogue, the only question would be if it plays the 3A's to your satisfaction in regard to dynamics and volume. To me it's the most intriguing of the bunch, but I'm into tubes. Either way, an audition would be in order as there's no way of predicting the Rogue/Vandersteen synergy as to your taste.

Hi!
Which output tubes can be substituted in the Rogue st100/Cronus amplifiers?
EL34's, KT66's, KT77's, KT88's, KT 120's?
Would the bias settings be different for ech kind of tube?
Thanks,
Dan

Dan, you can use all the tubes you mentioned and 6L6GC and KT 90 (even EL37 if you can find some).
If the Stereo 100 is the same as my Stereo 90, you bias KT88, KT90 and KT120 at 35ma on the built in meter (which is actually 40ma according to the manual).
The others should be biased lower at around 30ma on the meter.
This is what Mark told me for the Stereo 90, you might want to double check with him for the Stereo 100.
Lonzie, I use a SP 14 with my Stereo 90. Audio Research and Rogue make a great combo.
Enjoy the roll!

Thanks Mendel.
I used to have a ST-100 but I sold it to try a different amp. I regret selling it. I really like the sound of an amp with EL34's tubes.

I am going to try get ST 90 or a Cronus amp preferably a used one.

Thanks again for your response.
Dan
