As a long term owner of several versions of Audible Illusions preamps, I'm glad to note (see review) that they've decided to put an on/off switch on the L3A (and I assume the M3A as well?). I think this is a good move and will help owners extend tube life. In spite of claims that they've seen tubes last 20 years, that certainly hasn't been my experience with my Audible preamps. And leaving the heaters fully powered 24/7/365 has never made much sense to me.

I've thought seriously of adding an on/off power switch but have hesitated thinking it might devalue the unit. No longer.

Finally. Besides the tubes the heat also serves to dry out caps.

I plug my Mod 3 PS into a switched AC outlet. Serves the same purpose. /nt\, posted on February 11, 2016 at 18:07:49

That the heaters are not full on but much reduced when in standby. I have been running a Modulus 3 and then a 3a for over 20-years. Never had a tube failure. I DO replace them every so often - probably more because I am a bit anal that due to actual need.

Only ever turned off to change tubes......

The heaters are fully powered in standby (plate voltage reduced). The on/off switch will permit them to be easily turned off.
