 Hi, I was just reading where the switched AC outlets on the rear panel do not accept polarized plugs.

Other than the obvious of plugging other equipment in a power strip, is there another solution other than filing the ears off the plug?

 I've seen adapters for that. Google HD and Lowes.

Audio performance tends to sound substantially better when a source component is plugged into a dedicated power line distributor/conditioner rather than an old-school "accessory" outlet provided at the back of a vintage amplifier. That said, if you still wish to implement that method:

Assuming you are using a typical polarized 2-prong 18 AWG power cord with nickel plated prongs, you might consider snipping-off the stock polarized molded 2-prong AC plug and re-terminate the power cord with a narrow profile non-polarized AC plug with bare brass prongs, and screw-type terminals as shown in the image. However, you should clearly mark which prong is live and the other is neutral when plugging it into the back of your McIntosh C28. Not for safety reasons, rather your connected component may (likely) sound better with the original polarity intact:
