Hi

Am using Vienna Acoustics Kiss speakers with Krell FPB 200c power amp and Cary SLP 05 pre.

Have dibs on Ayre MX-R or Conrad Johnson LP 125 sa with ET 5 pre.

If I swap out the Krell for the Ayre MX R's, I'll keep the Cary SLP 05 pre but am unsure if it's a good match.

I've always liked the Conrad Johnson sound but am unsure if it's enough wally for the VA Kiss.

Any experienced feedback much appreciated.

The Kiss have a nasty impedance and low sensitivity @ around 86db. They need a SS amp IMO.

Also the MX-Rs have a very high input impedance of 2 mOhms so they will be a good match electrically for the Cary pre with its high output impedance (as measured in Stereophile).

On the other hand, using a tube amp with a higher output impedance may compensate a little the poor frequency response linearity that the Kiss have.

The most important consideration w/ CJ gear, which brand(s) of cabling, do you plan to use?

Interesting CJ cabling find. This is for the preamp and not the amp speakers. But between the amp and preamp I found that the best sounding cable was my cobbled 16 gauge stranded Radioshack wire with cheap Radioshack RCA connects.

Yeah - go figure that one!!!

Not hard to figure -Charles. Every once in a great while, a real "sleeper" of a product will hit the mark.

I've owned a number of c-j products over the years and in some ways I've found that there isn't a brand of cable that they didn't like. Currently using XLO and Acoustic Revive.

Was curious as to what you've found that works especially well.

Thanks.

I've used Audience power cords in conjunction with c-j and really liked them (currently PranaWire) and Nordost Red Dawn interconnects and speaker cables. Liked them as well but decided eventually on Acoustic Revive (more musical) and XLO (well balanced).

I appreciate your response.

I've used Kimber Hero, Anti-cables, and Signal Cables. Signal cables cost fractions of Kimber, Shunyata, etc and sound just as good with my CT 5.

They are the best, and most expensive, power cords I've ever used. A Vajra connects my Audio Excellence AZ Power Wing II (all Oyaide R1 outlets) to the Oyaide wall outlet. Two Satori with Oyaide M1/F1 connectors are used for my conrad-johnson CA200 and Oppo 105D.

Lummy's reviews pretty much hit the nail on the head for these cords.
