...this campaign degrade to the same old crap, as is happening now. I think Obama's restraint in this regard has been truly exemplary, and it breaks my heart to see it end. However, with the whisper campaign that's been going on for months and with the actual campaign actively trying to tie Obama to terrorism, he really has no choice but to return in kind. Unfortunately, I don't really see much more in the Keating "issue" than I do the one with Ayers. If you want to see a REALLY scary associate who McCain actively sought endorsement from in the current election, see
dh
dh,You mention that the Keating issue is about as meaningful as the Ayers. Are you aware of...
*The flights that McCain took on Keating's private jet?
*The private vacations that McCain enjoyed on Keating's Bahama resort?
*The $112,000 campaign contribution to McCain from Keating?
*McCain's admitting to filing false income tax returns in an effort to hide the thousands of dollars in gifts that Keating and Lincoln Savings had given McCain and his family?
*The fact that the senate CLAIMED they could not censure McCain further because he was in the House, not the Senate, when he met with folks on Keatings behalf? (In other words, were they to judge him as an actual senator when he did that, his political career would have been over. More about the actual timing in the article below.)
Does this change your opinion that the Keating and Ayers issues are relatively equivalent ... and both irrelevant?

I was not aware of the false income tax returns. I am aware of the rest and the fact that McCain calls the whole mess the biggest mistake of his life. I am also aware the he was officially exonerated in the subsequent investigation (not that THAT really proves anything, but it's certainly not true that everyone involved walked away scot free.) I still find the association with Parsley, who obviously believes that the current war in the Middle East is necessary for religious reasons, to be far more troubling.
dh
I find it troubling as well, but both camps are not going to 'go there,' since both have muddy water that is equally inflammatory ... and equally deniable.
Cheers!
Tom
...is why the mainstream media has never said a peep about McCain's association with this guy.

Perhaps?

I didn't realize he was in the house at the time, nor that it made a difference in the outcome of the investigation. That really IS more significant than the Ayres garbage.
dh
And you might know that the prenupt agreement included filing separate income tax statements. That may not mean much on the surface but can be important beneath the surface...just maybe or probably. Who knows?
Indeed, neither you or I seem to know, which is why I think the topic is not any more appropriate than that postulated in the Obama/Rezko post a few days ago.

If you remember when she was asked by Couric and the same type of question from Gibson Palin said the first Bush, Harry Truman, and Cheney. The first two became presidents (one,of course because of a death) and Cheney because of how he enlarged the VP's power. She wants to be president pretty bad. She is also very comfortable throwing garbage at Obama. She looks happier now than she did before.

...on their list of most admired anything has got serious issues. But of course, we already knew that about her based on several of her other answers (or evasions).

PAINTING: Man pulling his Beard (Rasputin)
jaiva,
McCain has repeatedly referred to himself as a devotee of Saint Reagan, who, it should be pointed out, deregulated the Savings and Loans business. The result was enough bad loans to cause the failure of insured S&Ls that eventually vacuumed up $650 Billion of taxpayer's money, now $1.1 Trillion with interest.
Doesn't anyone remember this caused the Bush Sr. recession of '89-'91 when housing prices dropped 20% (they arranged the value drop equal to average equity) and foreclosures and bankruptcies reached unprecedented levels?
Obama was pummeled hourly for weeks with guilt by association of religious worship, while McCain's and Republican worship of Reagan and his disastrous economic policies- with a substantial national penalty- for decades go unmentioned. This, despite the eerie similarity to causes of the impending Bush Jr. Depression.
For the first time in 30 years, the October Surprise will be from the Democratic side.
Cheers,
Bambi B
I sure hope so...
It is about time the Democrats started using some brass knuckles in this fight.
The obvious fact to me is the Republicans and McCain do not have an ounce of integrity and will pose any lie to win. So, the nice thing is the Obama camp has such worthwhile ammunition with which to retaliate.
Go get em Democrats.
...the worse it looks for McCain.

Obama and team have handled it very well.
Calmly and reasonably pointing out the lies and watching as the ever more desperate Republicans, unable AND unwilling to fight on any issues have become more and more ridiculous.
Now that they have declared the only way to win is through a whisper and smear campaign, it's time to really stick it to them and they will no where to run.
No appeals that it isn't fair to point out that after 8 years in power they have led an unparallelled economic decline, that they have lied repeatedly to start a war, that they are as corrupt and inept as an government in US history.
But no relaxing now, keep up the pressure for another month and don't give them an inch.
