It was a promotional album for 2 lines of monster model kits manufactured by Hawk Models. I later learned that legendary song writer / producer Gary Usher wrote the whole thing. The record came out on Mercury in 1964, I must have bought it that year or maybe in '65, so I was 9 or 10. I owned it until the mid - Eighties when I lent it to Rudi Protrudi, lead singer of The Fuzztones, and never saw it again. Copies sell for between $150 and $350 now, the last time I looked.
Follow Ups:
As you probably know, they were little dense plastic statues of weird oh's. Kind of a Big daddy Roth rat fink kind of thing , but without the copyright payments. I thought they were really cool and bought mine at a toy store , back when independent toy stores were normal.
Never heard of an album before this.
So are the Silly Surfers and another line called the Frantics that was unknown to me. It's cool that Hawk Models held on to the molds for 4 decades. Other model companies, in a fit of short - sightedness, destroyed a lot of molds from the same era.
