After my recent success restoring a Peak FR-250 idler turntable, I got interested in the brand name and did a bit of searching around to see what else they used to sell. I found this advertisement, with a slightly different, but similar idler TT and other stuff they used to sell here in Australia.I also remembered I have an old pair of 3-way speakers that used Peak drivers. The speakers were made by a company called NAMCO and were made in Japan, so it seems Peak was a brand name used in Japan at some point.
The company that imported the Peak brand into Australia, is long gone, so I guess I am not going to find out much more about them.

Follow Ups:
I love Japanese OEM stuff from the 50s and 60s, pretty cool and good or even great sound! That 8CX-50 looks like a Coral. There's a Neat P68 TT at the VE gallery which looks very similar to a Channel Master that was on eBay recently. Both have motors with a Neat/Onkyo badge. Thanks for posting!
That Peak table has lot's of similarities to my Peak FR-250.- the bearing is the same shape and mounting configuration (mine has a screw on bottom cap, but the Neat one doesn't seem to, maybe it was an oil version)
- the tapered spindle is identical
- the brass stepped motor pulley is identical.
- the dual cap / power resistor setup for the power is a similar idea
- the rubber idler itself looks similar (but then, many do)
- the speed change knob is similar, with each speed having a neutral position between them, and a switch integral to the speed change to power up the motor only when a speed is selected (you can just see the wires going to it in one of the photos and the small cap across the switch (identical to mine))These tables definitely have the same heritage.
Thanks heaps for the link.
Anyone have any more pictures of Neat TT's?

Here's one that ended last month on eBay. Nice pictures!

Looks just like the Neat P58 but this time branded Shield MO19. I've always been intrigued by Japanese classic Hi-Fi stuff.
Coral CP-701.. Uses 8 pole induction motor. Not sure if idler wheel or belt drive. Although the design reminds me of Empire.BTW, if you follow the link and go to the main menu, there's lots of 'vintage' Japanese and foreign products listed on that webpage. The Maxonic speaker and Mactone tube pages are interesting.
Hi Joseph,I have the coral 8CX-50 in OB pictured there as OEM. A friend had the same integrated valve amp in that catalog page but branded as Calrad. It uses 6BM8s as outputs and tube rectified. It had Noble pots and selectors, Elna pio coupling caps (pity they just make lytics these days), and Riken resistors everywhere as stock. He only had to update some of the lytics, do some contact cleaning, and resolder some joints. Sounded great with an impressive phono section, pity that he sold it.

I wonder if there's any link to that brand?

That company was bringing in good Hi-Fi stuff, including Grado. It seems like Peak was the Australian importer's trademark I've seen the Neat P68 rebranded as Channel Master in the USA.
