Hi Hans,I have two of these turntables, and the mats are stiff as a board on both. I bought the first one in 1984 or so, and I recall the mat being rather stiff, but I think that it has indeed hardened over the years.
It has been on my to-do list to find a replacement - let me know what you find out...
BTW, can you hear the motor running when you move the tonearm into the cueing position? If I put my head about 18-24 inches away from the platter I can.
I could swear that I did not used to be able to hear it...

Hi emakay, thanks for the info.Regarding hearing the motor, it makes a noticeable groaning noise while starting up, but that goes away once it's up to speed. However, I noticed that if the belt is removed, then you can hear the motor running all the time.
I don't remember if that's how things were when the table was new in the '80s.
