From Digital to Analog.Gone are all the Digital formats: SACDs, DVDs, DVD-Audio's, HDCDs and CDs in their shinny plastic cases.
Hello to the Analog formats: LP and Pre-recorded Open Reel tape in their cardboard cases.
Aside from the fact that I enjoy analog way more. The cover art and the printing of the covers are like works of art that you can touch and feel. There is no plastic inbetween you and the LP or tape box. Oh you can take the booklet out of a SACD, DVD-A or CD case but it's just not the same.
I guess what I am trying to say is not only is the sound quality superior in the analog mediums, the contact with the physical artifact is superior as well. I just love well cared for LP covers, they are a little extra bonus.

Another unique feature of LP's are the spindle marks. I always hope to see as few as possible when I'm looking at a used record, but if I see a lot, I still get some pleasure knowing that someone with a crappy aim really enjoyed the record.I'm trying to keep from adding spindle marks to my LPs, which brings to mind a poltically incorrect joke from "Blazing Saddles" about a pen, a pen holder and a secretary....

My experience almost exactly parallels that of yours, Teresa. I've been sucked into the digital hype of the 1990's, scrapping vinyl for those nasty li'l ceedees. At that time I had a crappy vinyl setup, a low-fi Technics P-mount turntable with a record-mulching cartridge. Only within the past few months did I re-discover the beauty of well-mastered, well-pressed vinyl. And I haven't been buying anywhere near as many nasty li'l ceedees as I used to. But my primary listening is portably (on the move), so I thought that those nasty li'l ceedees were the best. Boy, was I wrong! Especially since I recorded vinyl onto a good-quality, properly-calibrated cassette tape. Thus, my home listening will be exclusively vinyl. And most of my portable listening will be on cassette, unless I want to listen to good music that isn't available at all on analog. Accordingly, I am shelving most of my ceedees indefinitely.
Happy analog listening,
...I forgot to mention that my current turntable is a new Music Hall MMF-5.
I just got a brand new analog front-end that sounds absolutely fantastic. Never before have I enjoyed my records more. I also bought a new Alesis ML-9600 Masterlink CD recorder that copies that wonderful vinyl analog quality as accurately as I can imagine. IMO, it’s much more fun to enjoy both formats rather than discarding one for the other.
Funny you should mention that. I find myself not only looking at the condition of the LP but now the cover as well. They are better. I like the little plastic boxes on CD's but have come to lothe them. Hard to read and they break easily. You got a nice load of LP's last weekend. Enjoy. Will look for a Tubes LP on my next trip through LP land. Eric of Stone Ridge
The great thing about LPs is that they reflect their history. Sometimes when I buy a used record, I wonder where it's been and what its previous owners were like. When I listen to it, I wonder how many people have heard it through the years and what were they doing while they were listening?
The cool this about vinyl is that each LP and each cover is unique in a way. And it's got soul.
Yep.Like the land we stand on and the children we love and nurture, a record album is never really "ours." Rather, we are only the temporary custodian. May the next generation of vinylphiles enjoy the fruits of our labor of love.
.....those beautiful labels.....

is a much appreciated benefit. andreas vollenweider's 'caverna magica' is a good case in point. i had the cd long before the vinyl and BOY, when i got the LP i was amazed at the diff.the vinyl sound is also bigger and better.

the HiRez Highway of yore?Seen ya 'round here lately and I'm betting you're glad to not be hanging out on that road anymore, eh? (-: (all us guys over here have the big black ones)
Cheers!

I have ±400 LP´s leaning against the wall in my living room, keep buying more Lp´s and i´m out of rack space! I pick albums to play at random from these piles and after playing i put it in front of the rest. So there´s an ever changing tableau of 6 LP covers next to each other, very cool!Greetings from Holland,
come and get 'em...........I have numerous of these, pop, classical, folk, all in good shape, and I long, long ago sold off my Pioneer RT-808
The CD jewel cases & art work look minuscule, even insignificant, and pale in comparison.
And the sound...well we all know the story. Analog wins hands down, well the name says it all. Analogous to the original signal!SACD in my humble opinion, at least in its present state is a dissapointment. It doesn't even approximate the sound of analog. It does sound better than old ceedee, but not to the extent of being, super something.
e-mail me privately, I have numerous open-reel tapes in cases basically for giveaway.
