I must have had a premonition a couple months back and pinged the asylum about a back up cart in case I killed my only other MC cart, a hot rodded DL-103r with an aluminum body and upgraded stylus. My phono amp can only do MC. So I did murder my cart while dusting. sigh ... Anyway, rather than wait the 12 weeks for SS I just ordered an AT33EV from Germany on ebay. I got it in yesterday and put a couple hours on it. I gotta say, even just out of the box I'm pretty impressed. I'm often guilty of wild exuberance during a the honeymoon period so I'll wait for it to break in before really forming an opinion. This much so far is clear, it is much more dynamic with a fuller base than the 103. Its seems a little edgy at times but like I said it has about 2 hours on it.
So far I'm totally jazzed!

I really like my AT33EV. It is quite a departure from the Audio Technica sound quality I was used to with the OC9ML/II and the AT33PTG. It sounds much like my Denon DL-103R except better.
Good luck,

As I understand that is your favorite cart currently. I don't imagine it would be better but curious how well it holds up. I should have pulled the trigger on one when Comet supply was selling them for $500!

Well, I like the sound of my DL-S1 better than my AT33EV. My new Audio Technica ART7 is now my favorite cartridge and I'm playing it in my Sota Millennia turntable with my XOno phono stage. On the other hand, I find that my DL-S1 actually sounds a little better in my Technics SL-1200 with my new Vacuum Tube Audio PH16 tube phono stage and SUT. Therefore, I'm using both the ART7 and DL-S1 currently.
MY AT33EV is mounted in a headshell for my Technics SL-1200 and I switch it in occasionally. It's sound quality seems to match more closely with the Denon DL-103R and DL-103SA. It's just not as refined as either the ART7 or the DL-S1, yet I like the AT33EV slightly better than either of the Denon 103s. It's a rather warm cartridge, which is surprising to be coming from Audio Technica. However, it doesn't measure up to the ART7 or the DL-S1.
Best regards,
John Elison
