This is a direct-to-disc new release produced by Mike Valentine with the Interpreti Veneziani. Michael Fremer reviewed this recently rating it a 10 for sound. I concur. This is a very nice sounding disc and the live cutting makes it especially vibrant. It's a smaller group than usual for this piece, only nine members but the sound has plenty of heft.
I debated whether I needed another copy of this work but I glad I ordered this. My favorite is the Marriner Four Seasons which I have on a King Superanalogue disc with superb sound. Obviously, a larger chamber orchestra was employed.
It's good to see that new classical records are still being produced, though certainly not many.
Follow Ups:
KCRW in Santa Monica, California, is a great classical station and I listen often for several hours a day. There are a zillion recordings of T4S and they play it at least one a day. When I hear it, I invariably walk over to the HiFi and put on something from my library or switch to WFMT streaming radio.
Thanks for posting this, I read Mikey's analogplanet and missed this.
Although I listen overwhelmingly to rock I really enjoy classical music on occasion. The 4 Season's hold special relevance to me as the first time I heard it was in a demo for Acoustat 2+2's electrostatic speakers back in the 70's. The combo of music and reproduction of said music floored me. Although it took a couple of decades of saving, I finally acquired stat's and a couple of interpretations of the 4 seasons. I bought a 4 season's vinyl that was mastered on an all tube system a few years ago that has been my go to. I will definitely acquire this title. Thanks!
Happy listening.
Is the version you have issued by Tacet? If so, how is it?
You got it. Tacet is the label
I am anal or fastidious depending on your viewpoint and always clean my vinyl on my record cleaner with mofi enzyme and then rinse with mofi record cleaner, then LAST record preservative, and a mofi sleeve so that the vinyl will hang for the long haul.
Tacet copy is fulsome and rich. Involving to me and a good spin. However, even with the above procedure there is a small pop and a minor bit of grunge on my copy. It detracts but overall this record is a keeper .
I have another copy on another label but have not shot them out so to speak. I am highly biased towards tube gear and that feature sold me on the Tacet.
You mentioned the direct to disc and I suspect it will be better due to the d to d mastering. I say that as I spun my crystal clear direct to disc Virgil Fox Organ recording the other night and that was killer good.
Thanks again for the post as I am looking forward to acquiring this.
