I guess you'd have to be a certain age. High School for me. With that music and other more notable tunes from far better bands in the background. Local garage bands played it...not so well.
Vanila Fudge. ~1967
Part of the atmosphere for a time.

Follow Ups:
...I guess, in that I delight in finding vinyl recordings of the versions by the many teenage garage bands that dared to cover that tune. Many high school bands from those days did over the top, too loud, raw, not too skilled covers of a lot of the great music of those times. If lucky enough to record, those bands' records obviously did not get released in quantities of more than 100 or so copies. Sometimes the high school would release vinyl copies of their not so talented school bands doing "the hits".
Hearing those raw recordings really takes me back to those times, often with a smile on my face because I knew wannabe bands just like them.
Still spinnin'...
;^)
although I have yet to uncover any such records. I do recall seeing the A/V inclined nerds hiding behind their Roberts R2R decks getting a take on many different local and unremarkable performances back when. Oh, yeah. that would be another source of unpublished rock groups.....tapes.

...a Really REALLY good time I must say. My first "steady" girlfriend and the crew she ran with had Vanilla Fudge, Hendrix, the Byrds, and The Crazy World of Arthur Brown (!) as their soundtrack. That was wayyyyyy back in the day.
...'til I look in the mirror. These were heady times for me as well.
1967 I was junior year HS. But really, it is just an ephemeral moment when seen from a longer view. These snapshots and momentos exist to let us know that it really did happen.

It is hard to believe that I'm as old as I am...most of my memories of high school and college seem like they happened just a little while ago...
