A local friend gave me a water damaged, insect infested, Luxman PD 270 recently, and the table will be for parts only. Whatever was living inside the wet table left a pretty bad odor, lots of small debris, and plenty of corrosion.
However, a Grace 707 tonearm was mounted on the table and in great condition with one exception. The previous owner molded some type of non-hardening material into the headshell I assume for the use of lower compliance cartridges. I was thinking of using the arm for my ADC XLM II, but I will have to carefully remove the damping compound.
After reading the internet and the asylum archives, I was also curious about the identifying features(if any) that would determine whether the arm is a MKI or MKII. I read the MKII has lower friction bearings and a decoupled counterweight, but I couldn't find any information about outside physical differences. All the mounting distances are the same as well.
If anyone has the answer, I would appreciate it. Thanks.

After checking the pictures of the two arms out on Vinylengine it appears you are correct. The MK II has a decoupled counterweight. Of course you cant tell about the bearings from a picture. I have the MK II model and love it with my F9E. I have it mounted on a TD-150...
Did you have to build a new armboard for the TD 150 to accommodate the Grace 707? If so, did you have to elevate the Grace somewhat above the original height of the TD 150 top plate?
If I remember my Thorens TD 160 with the bottom removed, I think I would also have to desolder the original Thorens tonearm wires before installing the Grace 707.
Sorry about all the questions, but my Thorens TD 160 is at another location.
Yes, mine looks just like that picture. I made a new arm board for mine out of birch ply. I didn't have to elevate the arm board though. The counterweight sticks out past the back of the plinth so I had to drill a hole in the back of the dust cover to accommodate it...
mentioned drilling a hole in the back of the dust cover. Sorry that was amusing, but I will have to think about that before I use my Thorens TD 160 for the platform. I do have a Kenwood KD 550 that I could use, even though it is missing one dust cover hinge.
