Instead of turning this into a TAS created conspiracy consider it is possible that VPI did not furnish TAS with details they requested to include in their Buyer's Guide or possibly supplied the requested details past their due date.
>Is there some sort of rift between Mat & Harry and The Absolute Sound?
FYI: Harry has not been involved with TAS in several years and sadly is no longer with us.
Follow Ups:
VPI is hardly so inept at biz that they'd miss a deadline for TAS's publication. Some sort of problem between the mag and VPI seems a more likely explanation. At any rate the omission is IMO ridiculous.
As to whether VPI advertises in TAS, somebody who subscribes could answer that question. Dunno if companies that don't advertise in TAS are listed in the buyers guide or not.
Anyway, TAS is not alone in ridiculousness. Just look at S'phile's rec. comp. list. As an example:
Not one preamp from -- CJ/Cary/Blue Circle/McIntosh/Joule/Lamm/AI/deHavilland/Audionote/Allnic/EAR/Aesthetix/PrimaLuna and quite a few other companies.
Absurd.
In my experiences as an owner of multiple VPI products over several decades I've found VPI to be disorganized in various facets of conducting business. I am happy your experience(s) regarding their business practices differ from mine though that does not negate others had different experiences.One of my observations per VPI is they have a type of class system in place. Someone states they will resolve something but then passes resolution responsibility to someone else who may even pass that responsibility on to another person. Too many cooks stirring the pot so to speak with the result that the person who actually does the work has a different idea of what the tasks are relative to what the initial person told the customer. Like that old party trick where a number of people stand in line with the 1st person telling something to the next person who repeats this to the next person who repeats this to the next person, etc. With the typical and humorous result that what the last person heard differs greatly from what the 1st person said. Such a situation or any number of other things could lead to someone not furnishing information by its due date.

Big +1.....
The audio magazines are as bad as the surrogates that masquerade as news channels for Clinton (CNN) and Trump (Fox).

JazzDude;
Slow down and take a breath - R-E-L-A-X.... Pay attention to the punctuation in my post and you will see that the "Harry" that I am referring to is the "vertical" and very much alive Harry (Weisfeld), not the "horizontal room temperature" Harry (Pearson).
I'm not trying to create anything. I just found it odd that as many shows where VPI has been used as a reference front end, that there isn't one single mention of them (VPI) in the "Recommended Components 2017".
I found this curious, and that's why I asked if there was a rift between Mat & Harry (Weisfeld) ◇◇◇◇◇◇ AND ◇◇◇◇◇◇ The Absolute Sound.

Hi Geezerrocket. You are 100% correct that I misread your mention of Harry. And I apologize for that oversight. I do stand by the rest of my post that possibilities other than those mentioned within this tread exist for VPI products not being included in the TAS Buyer's Guide.
No worries....
