I have an Empire EXL 20 cartridge from Pacific Stereo back in the day. I would like to replace the stock purple .2 x .7 elliptical with an aftermarket .7 conical for playing some old jazz records. Trouble is I'm not sure which one to get. I can't find any information on the EXL 20. Anyone know which models it's compatible with? Cheers!

Since the exl 20 takes the same styli as the 2000 series, I believe the repl aftermarket conical would be the one linked below. The -D7C suffix indicates diamond .7 conical/changer type TT. Notice it requires heavier VTF. That purple .2x.7 is super nice, tho. I have one on my 66QE/X.Jim

You should be able to fit any stylus that is marketed for the Empire 2000E series cartridges.
Why do you want to go backwards from an elliptical to a conical? The point of modern stylus shapes is to trace the groove more accurately. It would be better to move forward to a line-contact.
Because I prefer the loss of detail. I like the warmer, more 'rounded' sound of conical styli. They're also more forgiving in terms of setup. I understand the advantages of finer tips, but I like to try different cartridges with spherical versions just to see what they do. I have a brand new factory stylus on the EXL 20 right now. Just looking for different flavors...
