I purchased a Technics SL-D3 at a garage sale. The turntable has issues, but the platter strobe runs rock solid, so I hope this turns out to be a good purchase. There is no tonearm counterweight. What choices do I have in finding a replacement counterweight?

Penguin beat to posting about the one on Ebay but Juno has 1200 CWs for $19, 23 w/ ship to the US.

very much like the counterweight on the sl200. see if you can borrow one and it fits, then you can buy one from KAB for about 35 bucks...or here is this arm :) see link...

Most all Technics cw look like that. I think it will work too.

How does the counter-wt attach to the tonearm? If it's a friction fit where you simply slide the CW back and forth to adjust VTF, then some properly sized O-rings plus the proper weight in washers should together do the job nicely. Use the O-rings on either side of the washer(s) so they hold the washers in place to set VTF. A skilled machinist could also make you a perfect copy, if you can beg or borrow an original for him to work with. Colby Lamb in Oregon is one such machinist.
Ever since I can remember, plenty of old TTs at garage sales, second hand stores.. The ones missing a counterweight? Walk away my friend...
SO you bought it anyway.
Solutions: washers. lots of just fit washers..
Or putty and washers.. Then they will stick in place.
A vinyl tube over the armtube back, then washers which just friction fit over the vinyl, wrapped with tape, or a bit of bicycle innertube. or a finger from a rubber glove
(Once you find the approximate correct weight..)
