Just got this from a friend. I have to confess never having heard of this label or of Buddy Collette. This is a straight ahead jazz session from 1960. Collette is on alto and tenor sax and is joined by others. Red Callender on tuba particularly stands out. The tunes here are all well known. The recording is amazingly well done with wonderfully robust winds and a large and well defined soundstage. This is a reissue from 1987 and very well pressed. All in all, a great record.
Follow Ups:
Haven't heard your LP, but have the following originals from BC;
Collette, Buddy Man Of Many Parts Contemporary s3522 56 Mono, DJ Demo stamp
Collette, Buddy Nice Day With… Contemporary c3531 Yellow mono DG
Collette, Buddy Bossa Nova Crown 5302 Original label, mono
Collette, Buddy Jazz Heat Bongo Beat Crown clp5159 Blk, Mono, DG
All are nice hard bop from the west coast, which may be the reason he was neglected a bit. Man of Many Parts is a larger group session, and Nice Day is a quartet. Those are my favorites of the four.
Thanks for the Collette suggestion. I will keep a look out.
You know, I really knew nothing about Rosolino's tragic end until your post prompted me to Google him. What a terribly sad ending for a man who was so talented and well liked. Thanks ( I think) for the prompting.
about his sons. I remember one jazz musician was so mad at Rosolino that he swore at Rosolino while Rosolino lay in his casket.
Thanks, I guess. I also Googled him after your post. It majorly bummed me out.

Hi Ecl876,
You inspired me to get out my Buddy Collette Porgy and Bess album and give it a spin.
It still sounds good. It is on interlude and it is mono. They may have also released it in stereo as they have it labeled monaural.
The personal is:
Buddy Collette --- Flute, Bass clarinet
Jim Hall --- Guitar
Louis Bellson --- Drums
Red Callender --- Bass
Gerald Wiggins --- Organ
Impressive cast, I would say.

Trying to decipher your enigmatic remark. Is the photo perhaps on its side? It happens when posting with my iPad occasionally. If so, maybe you could lie on your side next to your computer?

Thanks for the funny reply.

Hi ecl1876,
I don't think that Buddy Collette was as well known as he deserved to be. I have a Buddy Collette album of Porgy an Bess which I like a lot.
Wasn't that label a rock and roll label from the '50s? I believe Little Richard recorded on that label.

I still have a couple of those 45s in my collection.

I think you're right. Little Richard did record on the s label.
