In 2014, my Linn LP 12 froze, with the red light on and no motion of the platter. Yes, there is enough but not very much main bearing oil, no physical impediment, etc.
Brooks Berdan's shop tech fixed it, and everyone knows Tom is good. He could not get the table to full speed on startup, but it worked fine after a light push of the platter. There were some bad caps.
Now, after 2 years, there is no red diode light. I assumed mine had a Basik ps, but the on off switch is Valhalla. I know I purchased the table 2nd hand in 1977, and it's been a great table throughout the years.
Should I put in an Origen, or other motor/ps?
Should I buy a new table?

and it has been mostly flawless, the Advanced mod would vary in speed, so I upgraded to the Ultra a number of years ago. I've also modded the motor position, added a CF subchassis and tonearm and it still has the Linn magic with less of the Linn sound.

I know the Valhalla boards can be rebuilt to last. I know a great tech in New England who does this work -- what does the Tech at Brooks Berdan recommend?
That said, the Lingo power supply is excellent -- I have 2 LP12s one Valhalla and one with the Lingo I. If you have room for an external unit it is worth doing.
I have a modified LP12 and need to get the Valhalla board repaired so I can sell the table.
It has a RATA Torlyte mod kit in it along with the RATA TT stand.
A Neuance platform which sits on the RATA bass under the LP12
new Torlyte sub base.
A REGA RB900 tonearm and one of the last produced SHURE V15VxMR cartage's.
A Gold Aero db45 Signature head amp.
An as new VPI record cleaner, HW 16.5.
A gallon of record cleaning solution from Tom Port of Better records.
2 belts. One for each speed to go with the 45 rpm pulley.
Even the original LP12 box. But with the RATA kit and tonearm
I placed the inner and outer platters in a separate box.
Since you know some one who repairs those Valhalla boards would much appreciate knowing him to.
Thanks
George

I will email him. I need to get my Valhalla board fixed so I can sell my LINN LP12.
I have the Hercules II on my Linn and its great.
I would try the Origin setup myself, then again your issues may be a simple fix ...
but sometimes one just wants to move on. I have been looking for an LP-12 project, so if you decide to sell it please drop me an e-mail.
I use an Origin Live 8n my TD850. Works like a xharm. It was highly recommended by the Analog Shop and is an improvement over the stock motor and power supply.
Get a used Lingo II. ( original Lingo I is good, too but it, too is getting long in the tooth )
OL PSU is cheaper but I don't like the sound of it.
Can you describe the sound of OL vs Lingo II?
.
I've had my LP12/Ittok for 30 years. 11 or 12 years ago the Valhalla board failed. I purchased the basic Origin Live power supply. It has worked without fail, and I like the sound better than the Valhalla. I have never heard anyone say it devalues the LP12. That is definitely not my experience. Are there better tables. Definitely, but for the price of the Origin Live, you'll have a pretty damn enjoyable table. Good luck!
Go with the Origin PS. You might also look into a used Valhalla or an older used Lingo. Either way it should sound much better than the old PS. A good friend put the Origin in his LP12 replacing an original Lingo. He's very happy with the Origin.
Sorry to disagree, but I've seen too many failures of Origin Live power supplies to recommend them. Also putting in the OL motor is a sure way to de-value your Sondek.
I would look for a used Lingo. At the very least a Valhalla, but make sure it's been re-built as the caps wear out over time.

Interesting. I've not heard any reports of Origin failures, but then I only know two guys running the Origin on their LP12's. I don't doubt what you say. My sample base is pretty small, but both installations I know of are trouble free for ~ 3+ years and both are very happy with it. Not sure how valuable a 1977 Sondek is, but the Origin could only help it's value, however I do agree with you in that a 1977 Sondek with a Lingo is probably worth more than one with the Origin. It comes down to which would cost the OP more - the used Lingo or the Origin. By this point in its product life, worn out caps are definitely the bane of the Valhalla.
There is also I think, the Hercules out of Hong Kong that is cheaper. However, it requires work on the part of the buyer.
