But they can be a real pain sometimes. I sold off all my turntables and was going to keep my Thorens TD-150 with Sumiko MMT arm.
Then I get intermittent channel drops. Time to rewire the thing. I got new wires took the arm apart and put it all back together. Now it hums like hell. I tried different grounding schemes to no avail. I bought a Technics Sp-25 with plinth and arm. These are pretty reliable. I couldn't live without my music. Anyway I will set the TD-150 aside and wait till I am in the mood again to work on it. Such is life....
Follow Ups:
I am curious what diagnostics you did to determine that your intermittent signal was the fault of the tonearm wiring as opposed to faulty cartridge interconnects, RCA connector problems or other such issues? I have never rewired an arm and wonder what might cause one to do so.
I am also a lover of vintage turntables having owned 4-5 Thorens models before settling on my current TD-124 Mk I with SME 3012 arm and Shure V15 VxMR, a combination I love!

The other things you mention were working fine before I started this project so it was just a matter of what was the recent problem. I think Henry is correct in saying that it's probably a bad solder joint. Which I will check into when I get back in the mood to work on it.....
also get a new nearing for it.either from KAB or Audio fidelity aka tubesforrever....

When I first got my restored TD-150, the left channel would drop out then come back in. The wires from the Jelco arm were going to a KAB RCA block. My brother took the table and found the left channel hot wire was connected only by a small glob of flux. Touched it up with fresh silver solder and no problems since.

Thanks for the info Henry, I will try that. Right now I am to frustrated with the whole thing. You don't want me around a hot soldering iron when I am frustrated. No sir....
But soldering isn't one of them.
