I recently acquired a Stanton 'WOS CS100' and so was prompted to set up my Magnepan 'Unitrac' - which I've had mounted (as a second arm) on my TT for a year ... but never used until now. What a sensational combo! :-)) The WOS CS100 is a rare Stanton and, supposedly, the top of their line (above the 980/981HZS). It is a high-compliance cart and so needs a very low eff-weight arm ... the 'Unitrac' (at 7gm) fulfills this excellently. :-))
My other arm/cart combo is a Benz LP (the original) mounted in a 12", ebony-wanded UP arm made here in Melbourne (Oz, not Florida) - and I'm thinking this is seriously challenged by the Stanton/Unitrac combo. :-))
I was prompted to buy the 'WOS CS100' by a mate who is a Stanton addict - and I'm very glad I did. BTW, I have it loaded at 35K - not 47K - on the advice of Carlos in Puerto Rico. It sounds better at 35K! :-))
Regards,Andy

Hello Andyr,
I'm wondering what's better about the CS-100, the sapphire coated cantilever?
While its resistance (500 ohms) is lower than the 980 (800 ohms), the output is 3.8mV opposed to 2.8mV. This suggests more inductance.
Maybe something about the construction is better or a more pleasing combination of specs?

I'm afraid I don't know, neobop - but a mate of mine who is a Stanton addict urged me to buy it when it came up on eBay (I had been looking out for a 980/981HZS, without success, for the last year). Then someone else I contacted about loading, confirmed it was 'special'. :-))
Regards,
Andy
If you have not made sure of the capacitive load the Stanton is seeing to make sure it is correct, capacitive load can make a huge difference with most Stantons.
You probably know this.
Hi louie3, I think it's seeing about 250pF atm - 110pF on the phono stage PCB and 140pF from the arm cable. But I will check this at some stage ... just for now, I am enjoying its sound. :-))
Regards,
Andy
enjoy Andy....
FWIW most all the Stantons call for 275pf, but the low impedance cartridges have a bit more leeway so you are probably close to right.
I am convinced that if the old Stanton was still in business and selling its cartridges for five times what it did, Stanton would be the hot name among vinyl cognoscenti.
