Beatles Mono Vinyl Folks,
This's strictly about the vinyl sound/noise on your discs.
Many folks have posted about the absolute silence, incredibly clean background, etc. of the records.
I have a question, please: Would you post (very brief is fine) about the actual BG levels, including any tics, pops, or "swooshes"?
I would greatly appreciate any/all replies here.
I've now played all sides of my box set, save one LP. While all of them are truly quiet in general, there are quite a few light tics and a few of the "swooshes" present. The swooshes (sorry: I don't know if there's a common name for them – there's no attack to the sound; it's just a ... quiet "swooshy" noise) are audible only in the "betweens."
Is this familiar to you? Or am I the only one here who bought the box and got discs with these (admittedly minor) aural blemishes?
Thanks,
-=- Charlie F.

To everyone (everywhere, good night), er, but seriously, folks ...
Thanks! Thank you all for the comments and for the extra effort, Bill, to make and post the sound file.
I've had to clean a couple of the LPs twice (in addition to my normal cleaning efforts [VPI, Ollie's, etc.] and prodigious use of the ZeroStat) before the "tics level" came down into what is the " Fabulous Pristine Norm™ " of the Mono Box quality that most everyone has experienced.
Additional info from my experience: though several folks have suggested that the records shipped in such clean condition that they do not require the usual good cleaning ..., that has been true on only some of my discs. And, because I am usually kinda anal-retentive about LP cleanliness, I've decided to go ahead and clean the batch. (But, man, was I hoping to skate past cleaning 14 LPs!) I also noticed that, while some LPs had no noticeable static charge, others had high levels of static right out of the box the first time.
For the third time, thanks, guys.
I hope you all are enjoying your "new" music as much as I am mine.

The last few seconds of Helter Skelter and the start of Long, Long, Long in a 24/96 flac should give a hint of the LP noise level. The clip is posted to a public dropbox share.
Gear:
modded TD125-II/Hadcock 242/Hadcock Isolator/Musicmaker 3/Discovery wire
modded VTL Deluxe preamp
Metric Halo ULN-2 at 24/96
Protools 10.3.9 on 2009 Macbook Pro running OSX 10.6.8
UAD Manley Massive Passive 22 Hz 18 dB/octave high-pass EQ plugin
Cardas Quadlink (tt-to-VTL) & Mogami Neglex (VTL-to-ULN2)
generic FW800 wire from ULN2 to MBP
The ticks are static. I left the high-pass in to clean up turntable bearing noise, which is also most probably the limiting factor in the chain.
The overall slant of this gear is definitely on the polite side, which is accentuated by the limited highs on the records.

That was pretty cool. Not the biggest Beatles fan so that song just happened to be first time listen for me, ek :( ... :) ... how about, i dunno, helter skelter snip? lolbtw, that sounds a little equalized for strong bass don't you think, not that there's anything wrong with that ;)

I have some whoosing between tracks so far on "Magical Mystery Tour", "Rubber Soul", and "Help".
Not too big a deal to me because it doesn't affect the music, though perfection would have been nice. ;-)

Did I not say it didn't bother me too much because it didn't affect the music? I'm not new to this game.
Half way through "With The Beatles" and I'm much happier with this one.

I bought nine single LPs, not the box set. I noticed maybe a half a dozen muted tics over all the LPs. No swooshing noted. Extremely quiet.
I have played all but the Mono Masters which should be arriving. I can't remember a single pop or tick that drew my attention on any of them. No swooshes.
Mine have nearly no surface noise to hear at all. Definitely no swooshes. Really, my surfaces are nearly perfect. Very inrequent & very minor dust ticks here & there that occur well below the radar of even insignificant. I'm impressed with the quietness of the vinyl. That's my exp.

I have one defective side, with three big ticks; the rest are good.
Everything else is very quiet, though the tight spindle holes on most of the discs make controlling static something of a problem. Noisy discs quiet down after enlarging the hole a bit and giving them a wash in a VPI machine. (Wrestling LPs stuck to the spindle builds up a *big* charge.)
I won't post any measurements, as my old Thorens isn't in the major leagues, so that would be somewhat pointless. But the records are very quiet.

I'd have to say that table (or just about anything around here at AA) might be leaps and bound above what some people out there might be spinning these on! Just think of all the NON-audiophiles out there discovering this mono stuff for the first time!!!
