Anyone out there using this model? Curious to know how it stacks up next to AT OC9ML II and the like...
I'm looking for a "beater" cartridge when playing second hand vintage vinyl (clean of course but with possible groove damage) but don't want to sacrifice fundamentals like tracking ability or tracing ability so spherical styli are "out" for me (hence DL103 is off the cards).
Cheers
Anthony

not sure about shape.
I pulled the trigger last night and bought one off Ebay... Will let you know what my opinion of it is when I get it!
The stylus profile is supposedly 0.2x0.7 mil like you say, but then I've seen on some pages 0.2x1.7mil which I'm assuming is just a typo, but then again THAT could be the correct number.
With companies like Denon saying "special" elliptical without defining what "special" means makes it hard to know what the shape is exactly. The closest I've found is Ortofon who define "special" elliptical as one with a much larger major radius - their DJ special ellipticals are 0.5x1.0 mil.
I'm more concerned about manufacturing tolerances - the channel balance spec of 1.5dB and channel separation of 27dB suggests azimuth alignment could be much more slack....If this is the case, then it's an instant candidate for a Soundsmith cantilever upgrade!

Just missed taking possession of AT100E / G [G is for the headshell combo] at the post office.
The AT100E is lower than the AT-F7 I think but I bought it for the same reason ... first play of stuff to spare MCs. Curious to know how it sounds. I have OC9/MLII as well.
Dodging bullets is the next best thing to not having to.
I have the AT100E/G too - I was very disappointed that the SRA was so far off that the stylus tip was pointing FORWARDS not backwards. I use it with an ATN150MLX stylus instead - the inductance of the bodies is the same although the DC resistance is a little higher (not enough to make much of a difference to the electrical damping).
If you are intending to use it with an SL1200, be aware that the overhang is set for a much shorter value. I've lost the instruction sheet, but it is something like 48 or 49mm....definitely WAAAaay short of the 52mm you need for the SL1200!

There's a guy that has recordings on youtube showing a sl1200 playing with a ATN150MLX, so implication being that's how they are recorded. Some of the best vinyl recording I've heard, sounds fantastic.
I'm just hoping the AT it's better than Ortofon 2M Red which I though was ok till I put a Dyna 20X on same table - now I can't listen to 2M Red any more lol

Yes the ATN150MLX does sound fantastic! I measure a very similar freq. response characteristic to my AT440ML for the same loading, but the overall presentation is more palpable.
As to the sound of the AT100E with the supplied ATN100 stylus, the low frequency tracking is OK at the recommended nominal VTF (> 70um), but there is a lot of sibilance due to the SRA error and the sound on non-vocal recordings is somewhat coarse.
BTW I hope my previous post about the overhang wasn't confusing.. Unless you've already seen the AT heashell, they have pre-tapped screw holes at fixed positions - the front screw holes are still not forward enough to give the correct overhang on the SL1200 unless you add shims to the plug. When I bought it, I thought all universal tonearms had the same 52mm configuration and was looking forward to having a plug and play setup. The MG100 heashell is also much heavier than the normal designs.

To be honest I don't think overhang is all that important. :)---
Audio-Technica MG-10 Headshell sure is heavy, 10g magnesium!!
I'll likely try mounting my OC9 ML/II in it at some point.
I'm also going to investigate feasibility of drilling holed in the head shell to make it more generally usable. ;)

The MG100 (which is bundled with the AT100EG) is even heavier! It's a tad over 13g.
I bought the MG10 too as I liked the pretapped holes and thought that would save time in getting good alignment. NO such luck! There is enough slop in most cartridge mounting holes that you don't really gain much of an advantage and the fixed hole positions are a PITA for some cartridges.
The OC9 (which I have as well) will unfortunately come up short too. With my DL160 as far forward as possible in the front holes, I needed to shim the plug by an additional 1.28mm to get the right overhang.
You're right though, listening to the music is really the goal at the end of the day rather than fussing! However, with orchestral music, it annoys me to hear distortion on the inner grooves and I worry about the additional wear and tear on both vinyl and stylus due to tracking error...
Denon DL301, DL-S1 or DL304 conveniently have the rear slots for screws so they should be no problem in the MG10 although the headshell is a bit heavy for these cartridges to be ideal.

Might be an excellent value.

Thanks for the link :)
Yes, it certainly seems like a good buy from some of the Ebay links I've seen. As long as the fundamentals are good, then I thought it could be a bargain when retipped with a Paratrace or Soundsmith LC..
