I paid $303 and change for my Beatles Mono set but I'll use the $337 cost at Music Direct and Acoustic Sounds as a cost basis for consideration.
In November 1982 the Mobile Fidelity Beatles set (14 discs, same as the new Mono set) was released at a cost of $325. That set included a book illustrating the album covers and a GeoDisc cartridge alignment disc. Adding inflation, in 2014 that set would cost $802.40.
Using the same inflation calculator, today's Beatles Mono set, at $337, would have cost $136.50 in 1982. That is less than half the cost of the Mobile Fidelity set at the time. And, it comes with an excellent, high quality book - and no equalization problems.

Listening to the mono masters right now-hell, I had no idea there was real bass on these recordings. Paul's Hofner is in the room!
the ebay prices for the MFSL box set...it appears to be a bargain

but was just wondering. The MFSL boxes have turned out to be good investments.

In order to buy this box I had to sell a Bear Family 8 CD box and a handful of albums. No regrets. While I don't have the setup to pull the most out of these LP's they still sound great. To get reissues from the original tapes on 180 gram vinyl, killer book and a box to store them in for $336 (no tax no shipping) is a steal. Funny thing is I'm still a Capitol Records guy. When I see the British covers (until Rubber Soul) they do nothing for me. But, the Capitols build excitement with "worlds most exciting" "England's Phenomenal." Even though you know the songs inside, you know your're in for something exciting.
... and thank you all for your posts.
Our box is supposed to arrived this Monday. Between now and then, I am really enjoying the suspense of the wait.
Every post about any aspect of this release is manna to my childlikefixationfascination.
Again, thanks!

OMG, my box *is* arriving this Monday. Please remove your italics. ;)
... Our box was supposed to arrived this Monday ... but the USPS kicked some fanny and delivered it today!
Though I haven't pulled any of the LPs out of the sleeves, I have lovingly beheld the book and all the covers. Everything looks and feels great. (That is one heavy shipping box!)
Tomorrow will begin the cleaning and the spinning.
I will not be answering my phone. (:~)
Happy days,

Lucky!! I just found out I have to head out of town on business on Tuesday. Rats. If they get here on Monday I see a late night in my future, lol.
Good luck with your decision!
We've fit a few LPs into our Sunday and Monday: Please Please Me, With The Beatles, Magical Mystery Tour, and the first disc of The Beatles.
Obviously, we picked 'em as we wanted to hear 'em.
While I can't say it's all been perfection, things are close enough for smiles all around.
Have fun,

Don't think you need to clean these. They're immaculate. I think I heard two muffled clicks during the seven albums I've listened to so far. I wouldn't worry about any pressing release chemicals.
Enjoy, the set is awesome!
Excellent!
This morning is devoted to a visit from out-of-town close family and one other non-music personal pursuit.
But then ...
The Four Lads will be set a-spin!

They were a great band. I'm still not buying the box.

Where did you get your mono set for $303?
Music Direct had a Labor day weekend sale with 10% off (with code). So it was $337 minus 10% equals $303 and change. Got lucky.

After listening to the entire thing, I think it's a bargain. All of my discs are flat and quiet, and the skipping on "Revolution" was solved by increasing VTF by a tenth of a gram.
Just finished listening to all 28 sides and not single pop or glitch as well as dead quiet and flat. (Encountered no skips on revolution at all played SL1210 w/DL103r.) Beautiful packaging & book, too, with nice recording & remastering info. So glad I popped for this. I was on the fence, and my darlin' wife said go for it.Jim

The set is a bargain. No complaints and no buyers remorse. Needle dropped all sides and listened to Revolver and The White Album (even Rev. 9, it was tough). Discs are flat, quiet, and sound amazing.

I didn't spring for the mono box set, I have a mint blue box set. I did however purchase Rubber Soul, Revolver, White Album, and Magical Mystery Tour from the local record shop.
Needless to say every single one of them is warped. Searching forums this morning, this seems to be a common problem with the single albums from this reissue. Granted, they still seem to play OK, but I can't justify keeping warped records in my collection. My thought is if I give them away or sell them years from now, the person receiving them my not have a table that plays them without skipping. So needless to say they are going back to be exchanged or flattened. Too bad, seems to be an almost perfect reissue otherwise. Amazing quality artwork and dead quite vinyl.
Bought nine singles. Only the first (Please Please Me) has a very slight warp, about 1mm. The rest are perfectly flat.
Sorry to hear that. Seems strange that the single album reissues would be different.
I've got a list going of records in my collection that are clearly edge warped or bowl warped to justify purchasing a vinyl flat @$160 when fundage allows (it'll be a while after this Beatles box purchase). A fellow inmate with a vinyl flat flattened a London FFrr I had recently found that was badly warped. Did an amazing job.

My box set LPs are flat, so I bet the box makes a difference. As one major variable, the freshly stamped vinyl is tightly packed.
Had a chance to listen to any sides yet, bud?

about 4 sides, and above all the clarity and silent backgrounds, it's the balanced full bass that I love, after a lifetime of cranking the knob to 9. Good thing because now I don't have any tone controls. Another thing that's spooky good is the occasional feeling that parts are in stereo. I mean, I know it''s not, but some parts and harmonies seem to fill the stage between the speakers.
Know what you mean. There is a width/breadth/soundstage in mono that is surprising. Check out the video with Sean Magee, mastering engineer for Beatles mono set. The whole clip is interesting, but he talks about working in mono from 4:29 on.
