A couple months ago, my good friend Mike and I went to visit Lee, who lives on the western flank of the Pryor Range, on the Wyoming/Montana state line. We helped Lee put together a functional stereo system from his large assortment of turntables, receivers and speakers. Lee then invited us to take any records we desired (gratis) from a collection of 50+ apple crates loaded with LPs and 78s. Mike and I each culled 150~200 from the lot. The remainder destined for the Billings, Montana thrifts. Still a lot of good records in the lot, although Mike and I certainly pulled most of the 'gems' out.
Here's Mike to the left and your's truly to the right, standing in front of a ton and a half of records destined for thrift shop bins.
HAHA!!!!! I did something like that, I just turned in a few records at my local thrift store (just because I'm picky and thought there was one thing or another wrong with them), but I took it one further than you, because I actually bought about 20 records from there several weeks later… and discovered that I bought back one that I had turned in… grrrrr. I was pretty annoyed with myself for being silly!!!! Hope you don't do that, haha.
will not remember if that happens.

SOme are consistenly fair in what they give me. other not so much. And then there is Half Price Books, Which always gives pennies at best on the resale dollar.
...than sell to Half Price Books. Awhile back I sold them a good sized stack of classical LP's I'd bought in haste but really didn't want. Many of them I had bought at HPB for .99. The next time I went back, I saw my own LP's priced at $9.99, $7.99 and other ridiculous prices....whereas I'd only gotten a few bucks for like 30 discs. I'd honestly rather give them away free to another person who would listen to and appreciate them. With gas pushing $4 a gallon, it simply isn't feasible driving around selling LP's to re-sellers for pennies on the dollar.
I dropped off about 15 crates of overflow LPs at the local recycle. For about 3 months afterwards record people I know were showing and bragging to me about the great garage and psych LPs they were finding at that recycle.
One man's trash is anothers...
;^)
They do not have the usual large quantity of junk collected as other places do, i contributed to the problem today :)
Although there is a lot of stuff there just was not to my taste, but hey somebody might like it :)

That's one reason I don't buy big lots like that. OTOH, at many thrift shops I've been to, you can tell that the top 10 percent has been cherry picked before anything got to the bins. You now have some of those, so it all evens out. Enjoy.
I went to a yard sale years ago and had about 50-100 LPs leaning against my leg. The home owner came up and said, "Take 'em all for $5?"
I thought, at first, he was referring to the pile I'd already picked, but he meant the 1-2000 (no shit) in boxes all around me.
About 1/2 was stuff I'd never listen to, the other half was some pretty exciting Classical music. It fit into my collection quite well.
What is interesting is the person responsible for this thread got all the doubles. I still remember the look we both got from his wife as we brought them into their house.
