I love Mr .Fremer's writing and in my particular case I think it really was his enthusiasm that got me back into vinyl in 2008 (having grown up with it through the 70s but reluctantly purchased CDs between 1987 and 2007 because that was all that was really available to me).
two factoids from his intro article that are new to me:
1. General Zod's prison was made of glass
2. Rega sold more TTs in 2011 than in any previous year. Now that I find amazing.
And another thing that is amazing me just as much. Seeing Deutsche Grammophon issuing new recordings on vinyl, even if at the moment it is just a small selection. Afterall, that was how CD started too...
When was the last time a "mainstream" classical label issued new releases on vinyl? Unless I am mistaken I think it was Chandos who ceased sometime in the early 90s (companies like RR don't count because they are specialist hard-core audiophile companies).

Does this count?
Yes it does!

I enjoyed that. His description of the CD Jewel case had me in stitches !
long boxes at Tower was like reliving a nightmare. Every time you'd go in there the vinyl space had shrunk.

I started shopping at the local Great Escape in about 1990. At the time the used vinyl section took up the whole middle of the floor and the cd's were in a dresser sized case by the register under lock and key. During the 90's the cd section grew and grew. By 2000 the cd section took up the whole middle of the floor and the lp section had shrunk to about 1/5 the size and was stuffed away in the rear of the store. Two years ago the vinyl section was growing at a rapid pace. Now the cd section is sharing the middle of the floor with lps and the section in the rear of store is still there and half of it is NEW lps!
Finding a lot of great stuff there once again.

They were a carnival of American decay on parade, and they had no idea of the atrocity they had inflicted upon themselves.“ Henry Chinaski
An album cover is quite suitable for rolling cigarettes and joints on. An ipod just doesn't even invite the possibility. Further, the underlying intent of the quote is to conclude that perhaps the music heard on an ipod would not be worthy of smoking a joint to.
