While on vacation at Myrtle Beach SC, I found the COMPLETE works of Beethoven on DG box sets, but the vinyl was flexible and thin. it looked like one of those time-life type issues. the DG label was clear. is this worth buying? they were priced at 2 bucks each LP. Thanks

collection. 17 Box sets & Book - made in USA and on normal (160gm?) vinyl.

Probably, it is Karl Bohm box.
are not correct, they estimate some el cheapo price one only gets in big LP weekend shows or garage sales.
I see these go for $1 to $3 each record, but I might pay $1-2 if you really need the box to complete your collection.
They are reissues on Italian vinyl, as stated, but just being thin doesn't necessarily mean they sound bad or have bad pressings. It depends if you collecting only the finest pressings or you are a music listener who might like these DGG sets.
I own 3 sets (Vol 1-3) and the softcover book, from my late aunt's collection. This is how I got the complete Kempff Beethoven PC's, Karajan symphonies from 1963-64, etc. The pressings are fairly good, not very thin and surfaces are ok, mostly quiet (she did not play them much if at all on her Dual 1015 with ?Shure cart). If I love (for example) the Kempff PC 3, I would search out a real tulip copy.
As an aside, the Great Men of Music are excellent sounding re issued RCA Red Seal recordings (Time Life). Great finds if you want the music. The Beethoven set had the complete Heifetz/Munch Beethoven VC, and Cliburn/Reiner PC 5, "Emperor."
My estimate of 25 cents per disc was based on purchasing the entire set, not individual records or volumes, in person and not on ebay. I paid $4 (50 cents per disc) for the mid-70s Bohm/VPO DG complete symphony box in clean NM condition at a large charity sale. You would probably pay at least $10 plus shipping for that on ebay.
I didn't mean to denigrate the set. Who knows, I might have some of it somewhere myself.
a century set. Not especially good and no to the $2/record
If he means the Beethoven edition, it has the 63-64 set.
FWIW, I ordered the set when it came out in the early 70's. I had high expectations as I already owned several DG LPs, but these LPs were of, IMO, inferior quality- sonically and performance. I sent them back and cancelled the order for further issues.
$2.00/LP is too much even if in really stellar condition.
...in 17 boxes? That was pressed in Italy on cheap vinyl. It usually goes for about $2 a box, or $35 for the whole thing.
The complete works as in everything he ever composed? So that's, what, like about 100 LPs? #backache
Beethoven's complete works? How many LPs is that, 300? If they are in mint condition, I might pay 25 cents per disc, otherwise, 10 cents.
