How do the two compare for the job of static elimination? I'm also wondering if the ground wire on the brush ever gets in the way during use.

I wash my records and then hit them with a bulk eraser(an electromagnet) before I play them. Since I started doing that, I don't have a static problem. weird but true.
This isn't offering any comparison: I've never tried a wired anti-stat brush.
The only other dust control I've been using lately immediately pre-spins is a carbon-fiber brush after the Zerostat.
Works like a champ.
For a few years, I thought the StaticMaster was the way to go, but I came back to the Milty.
And, but of Coors, a good wet-clean at some time in the past is wunnerful.

Felt mats reduce/drain static.
I bought that brush, but returned it for a refund because it really did nothing to reduce static on my records. I don't own a Zerostat either. The best thing I found for reducing static is a good wet cleaning.

... of the static problem. Did you have any problem with the cable getting tangled or snagging the tonearm?

No. The grounding cable was pretty long and flexible so it was easy to maneuver around the tonearm. Not really sure if I used the brush while the record was actually playing though. Just a brush off before and after while the arm was in it's rest more than likely.

I should add I've noticed that I have a harder time with static when I'm wearing synthetic fibers than when I'm wearing cotton. If I forget and try to play a record when I'm just lounging around in my nylon sweatpants, forget it, it's impossible. Even with the zerostat, it needs to be zapped like five times.
I don't know how this works. I know cotton has a low dielectric constant, and nylon/polyester is much higher. Mayne it holds onto some charge that zooms up my body, down my arm and onto the record. I don't know. But it absolutely is true that wearing all cotton helps.
I'd say that one should never wear a synthetic shirt while changing records unless the humidity level in the room is high enough to short out the static charge. That would be close to 100% humidity, I'd imagine...

Since cotton absorbs water, it won't build up charge.
Wool, Polyester, rubber and other synthetic fibers generally do not absorb water so can build up charge.
If you are sweaty, or are lightly wet, you won't hold a charge.
So - if you wear polyester, douse yourself in water, and then you will be ok! :)
But on ly if you put the pictures up afterwards! :-D

My Mapleshade wand works very well and is considerably cheaper than the Milty.

I see them as two different applications. it's been my experience that a zerostat gets rid of static quicker and in great amounts than a brush. i zerostat right after a cleaning and i usually don't need to again. if i feel static when the record comes out of the sleeve I'll zerostat. other than that a brush works for any small amount of static and for picking up dust etc.
I like the brush, it works well. I have a Zerostat but seldom use it.

... work as well as the Zerostat?

I think so. I don't have a static problem using it.
I've never used the Mapleshade, but the other anti-static brushes I've tried(Hunt EDM, Audioquest) actually created static. Maybe the Mapleshade with the ground wire actually works. I use the Hunt brush followed by a zap with a Zerostat. Although if the Mapleshade works, one step would be easier than two, I guess.
Music Direct also sells a (giant) grounded record brush. I sure would like to kill two static birds with ones stone, if possible.
