I can still see walls...
;^)
Lol. You're right. Why have bare walls where records can go. What was I thinking?!?!?
"Man, that mouse is Awesome." - Kaemon (referring to Jerry, of Tom and Jerry fame)
I was thinking exactly the same thing. :-)
Lot's of empty wall space there.
.
Short’s the best position they is. Bullet in the Brain
and at about 75-85 lps each, my guess is the total is in the 3-3.5K range.
These are the boxes that haven't made it onto the shelves inside the house. I've got a 16 slot and 8 slot Lack in the living room.
Visually, that combination is appealing to me and I'm reluctant to get additional shelving. At some point, my guess is I'll have to get the 25 slotted Lack, but it hasn't happened yet.
The garage has about 8 boxes of imports/WLP, about 26 boxes of domestic Jazz and the rest is pop/rock/rnb, the majority of which are all in NM condition (both jacket and vinyl).
I've gone through two moves in two years and the records/cds became a total PIA! If you'd caught me at the right time I'd have sold it all for a beer and burger. I was so pissed!
You know, even with all the records I have inside and out, I still enjoy looking for records. I'm a bit more picky about what I buy, but I still buy.
Crazy.
Cheers all.

I am going over and taking care of this mess.

if you have to move again let me know and i'll come and buy you a burger and beer :)
have you thought about some shelving in the garage for some of the titles you might want to have easy access to?
I've thought about putting up a shelf in the garage, but am a bit concerned about the humidity (WA State). I'll try and get them inside at some point if I'm able to stomach having so much vinyl in one place.
Funny, I used to love looking at all the records. Anymore, that's just not the case.

one 25 slotted Lack to fit all those lps!
I think it'll still leave a few boxes out. Then I'll have to cull some more.
I've gotten rid of so many boxes of vinyl the last couple of years.

I am drooling uncontrollably.
Usually folks with piles of boxes do not have stuff worth bothering with.. but now i am interested.... Nearly 2,000 Jazz LPs.. that is what I have now... i could use another 2,000
yeah
At least a pile of them would not be dups....
Once you see the "AA" through "HH" (I think that was the last box), you're into pop/rock and rnb.
Oh...and if you're after imports/WLP's/etcetera, go for the remaining numbered boxes.
(Wait a minute...I've not listed my address any time in the past right?)
Oh no...

Ask how I know?
LOL

.
I see 4300.
Get them out of the box and start playing them!

Regardless of what table you buy or own as long as you're spinning vinyl you're doing the right thing!
on the old Thorens sitting out there.
But that hasn't happened yet.
"Man, that mouse is Awesome." - Kaemon (referring to Jerry, of Tom and Jerry fame)
my guess 5400...if i am the closest, can i take all of them?

I had 12,000 and then was forced to move. It was a total PITA.
So i rushed through sortingthem and dumped half. (yes i cried)
But now I made a promise to only have 6,000 LP and NO MORE THAN THAT.
(As 6,000 is what i own good shelving for)
So i weed out stuff as i buy new stuff and am happy.
You can go about 5-1/2 years without repeating a track.
I guess you must get easily bored?
And the other issue: can you find a specific track when you want it?
Note: words spoken above in envy. Glad you're happy!
"Knowing what you don't know is, in a sense, omniscience"
I couldn't find a specific record in the boxes, but they are numbered/lettered so I know where they go in my catalog.
I don't have anything written, but my music collection is in order so finding an artist or record isn't that difficult. Except that, I have mine broken down in the following order: Japanese pressed Jazz, audiophile Jazz, import Jazz, WLP Jazz, Japanese all other...

I saw one guy who uses Evernote to organize his LP's. He uses his phone camera to capture the cover image, then adds freeform notes. He can use the program to search on any of the info, plus Evernote has some OCR capabilities to translate cover text into machine-readable content. Or so he says.

Classical, Rock/Pop, and Jazz, sorted then by primary artist (or for Classical by Composer)
Then within each artist in Rock/Pop and jazz i try to keep them by date released. (not always able to keep them perfect by date, but i try.)
Classical I arrangeeach composer into solo, duo trio etc, with the items sorted by the primary artist/conductor for multiples of the same work.
Then aside from the 6,000 Lps, I have another 3,000 CDs..
Oh And I listen to music about 14 hours a day now that I am retired...
is just music playing throughout the day as background and how much for "sweet spot" listening?

You are, my lady, a true music lover!!
Most of my music is classical, so I care about composer, conductor, orchestra, soloists, vocal arrangers, record label, etc. I need the program to help me find whether I have Bernstein conducting a Bizet orchestral suite, or where I filed the Yehudi Menuhin solos where there are multiple composers on an LP.
For a long time, I filed by date of acquisition, which let me go back and see what I was listening to 10 years ago. I could also see how my tastes have changed over the years (I used to LOVE Vivaldi, now meh!).
But if you are acquiring LP's by the boxload, all that goes out the window, which is why I wonder how those of us with BIG collections organize.
Retired, h'mmm. I'm looking forward to it; I only hope I still have my hearing!
"Knowing what you don't know is, in a sense, omniscience"
I'm guessing 4,000~4,500.
You just moved?
