For anyone interested in a pair of AR 2ax's, there are three (3) AR 2ax's for sale on CL (Central Michigan) for $275. That's $92 a speaker. I have no association with seller, but have noticed posts in the past by those interested in AR's. I've tried to include the link below. Hope this makes someones day.

And seller may accept a lower offer.
At that price, you could flip for parts. Or restore. I would restore.
Later versions used foam woofer surrounds. Changeover occurred at about the time the small black dome tweeter was introduced.
Supposedly the AR5 used a slightly different woofer, at least initially. Later replacement units were the generic AR 10inch woofer.
Personally, I found the bass of the 5 to sound better in room than the 3a. 3a bass can be overwhelming, 5 bass seems better integrated into the overall sonics of the speaker.
I have used AR speakers on an off for about 40yrs.
I don't remember my AR 2ax speakers having foam surrounds, so I looked it up. Earlier ones had cloth, later ones had foam. These must be later speakers.

I'm not a Buyer & Seller, and in fact pursuing becoming a minimalist. But are these a good buy for someone at the asking price?
If the cabinets are in nice shape, yes. The AR2 family and the AR5 used the same 10" woofer with a high Qts. The result is a bass system Q of 1.2, which is quite high, and a 50 Hz system resonance. The sound is fairly punchy in the bass, and good for jazz, folk, some rock and popular, and because of the smooth mids and highs, pretty good for classical and chamber music.
A lot of people, me included, like the bass in the AR2's better than the AR3a.

You could do better maybe a good deal better moneywise. I wouldn't want three either. Cosmetically they are above to way above average. If I were going to own them the crossovers would need new parts and I'd delete the level controls. I see that these have new covers and refoam only. Good luck, fine speaker.

I am not really up on modern pricing, even though I own 2 pair. Both have on blown woofer, so my plans are to put them together to make one good pair. I bought both pairs from thrift stores, so I didn't pay much. My uneducated opinion is that they a good deal at that price. If that is what someone wants, they are an old speaker and don't come up that often. Of course, condition is everything and if anything is not as stated, that changes the value.
