An eBay special @ $65. Terrific amp and a great tuner. Phono section so-so. Loving it.

I've owned a 730 and a bunch of other HK stuff, and repaired several more for co-workers and friends. The only problem I had with any of them was intermittents caused by cold solder joints. The soldering on the earlier ones was really poor quality - too much solder, not enough heat in the iron. Definitely not wave soldered. I'd just go through and re-flow all the joints. In some cases, where there was a big blob of solder, I removed the excess solder with a solder sucker, and then used new rosin core solder. Many of the joints bubbled up when reflowed, indicating the joint was a "rosin joint" capped over with solder.

I worked for an audio shop in college in the 70s that sold many of those bundled with a Philips 212/Sonus front end and ADS speakers, usually the 710 or 810.
They made great systems.
...except we used Signet cartridges on the Phillips 312. So I guess I started later than you did.
I've always liked that series of receivers and owned the 330, 430 and the 730 ...the 730 with ADS L710 speakers. A very nice sounding combination.

reelsmith's axiom: Its going to be used equipment when I sell it, so it may as well be used equipment when I buy it.
Back when new I read a few times that Robert Fulton (FMI) had input in the design of the HK-430. I know that was a strong recommendation to match with his smaller speakers.
The larger HK receivers were also promoted as "twin powered" (like two mono amps on a common chassis) but I never knew about similarities otherwise. I do know from experience the 430 was a sweet little unit within its power range.
Anyway, good luck with the 730. It may need recapping but that was a great price otherwise.

Great score! They were very well thought of when new. I wasn't aware of the phono stage. I like the Thorens too!

When I went through my HK phase I had most of them. Even a few odd balls that I have never seen or heard of again.
The 430 had something special. The 930 had something special but not like the smaller models. The 730 had "it". That receiver level audiophile grade sound and enough power to make it work.
Do it up right and it will be worth it.
post your findings.
