Restoring one of these and it is sounding pretty good, however, no FM, nothing, zilch, zip, nada, just the background hiss, any ideas? (tested all tubes & voltages, all good there). Also, how do you take off the back cover over the controls? Took off the screws on the sides and the one on the chassis, but the cover will not come off! I can wiggle it a little bit upwards, but still not coming off. Is there some kind of screws or latch that holds the cover on that requires removing the faceplate with all the knobs? thanks!

Is this a 340A or a 340B.

Sorry I didn't answer answer sooner but I was feeling not so good..Anyway,to pull the front panel off a 340a,take the knobs off by loosening the set screw on each knob and then, you will two nuts,(no pun intended),you take those off and the panel comes right off.

You probably need to remove a few more side panel screws. There might also be a screw loop on the tube deck that you've overlooked. Some of the Scott mpx boards have a jack on the mpx board for testing. You might also try patching a cable from that mpx out jack on the multiplex board to the aux in to see if you get anything. That bypasses the mpx circuit....it will tell you if your problem is with the tuner section or the mpx plate...or somewhere after that.
I would also suggest wiggling and reseating the 2 tubes next to the tuning capacitor (6u8 and the 6BQ7). I've had issues with those in a few other Scott tuners in the past.

A lot of the old tuner circuits - the actual tuning bits- were in soldered tin plated boxes- and you have to un-solder them...
