Gonzo,I located this picture on-line of a Sherwood S-8800 in its wood cabinet. You are right that the lattice grill on top is nearly the same as mine. But note that the front edges are not beveled like the Marantz. So, it might be possible that both cabinets were made by the same company - either as an OEM supplier to the respective brands to be sold under their names, or that these were both sold by an aftermarket cabinet supplier.

I went into my basement to find the Sherwood, and the case is as pictured. No beveled front edge, but rather squared and recessed. Mine is the S8800a and does look like the one above. Norm

Not shown very clearly in my picture is that the front has that characteristic vintage Marantz inward beveling (same as the WC-1 and WC-2), which recesses the front panel for that lovely classic framed look. I don't think Sherwood or others did it quite like that, but I could be wrong.
