I tried to rebuild with the original boards but that path was fraught with failure. The voltages were consistently too high but we eventually got it under 500. The first cap in the power supply we moved down to a 10uf. I wanted to be gentle on the tubes as mine were original and never used.
Good luck.

The only problem I have with the 10uf is the fact it is covering two rectifiers.I do have the 550v Authenticaps that I use downstream where I used the F&T 500v caps in the other KB85.I would love to do all film caps if I could fit them in.Did you get any low level hum with a 10uf?

We kept moving the cap down until the voltages were at an acceptable level. We were expecting some hum but it didn't happen. There is no noise on my 107db speakers. I have a couple tweaks to make but once done I'll send you the schematic of what we did..

Thanks, Iain, I read about your rebuild on your most excellent (and bookmarked!) webpage, good stuff! I am a bit surprised that you had so much trouble with the boards, the boards seem really robust compared to boards on Eicos, Dynacos, etc. What was your particular problems with the boards? Thanks, Randy
Thanks for the kind words but I am a nube when it comes to rebuilds. I had to work on the boards multiple times and they just couldn't take my abuse and multiple attempts. I'm pretty sure it was my fault. The traces were lifting and falling apart. I'm like a bull with a soldering iron lol. I prefer scratch builds now but I still have a stereo el84 amp begging for something...
I hope you post pics as you go along... Fun stuff.
