In Reply to: RE: Yamaha CA-1010 integrated I'm in love :-) posted by Lee of Omaha on September 13, 2016 at 15:56:17
heh -- my daily driver is capable of about 3 watts per channel at anything like nominally reasonable levels of HD :-)
... but, otherwise, yes I agree - the CA-800/1000 and CA-1010/2010 are very nice in Class A.
That said, I don't think they're at all BAD in class AB (to my ears)... and I don't think the preamp's all that bad, either.
THAT said, I've yet to find an active preamp that I actually, "actively" like.
YMMV, of course ;-)
all the best,

Hi Mark,
I see that you buy the thrift store monster cable like I do. I have a lot of it. I can resist what once was an expensive cable for 2 or 3 bucks.
I agree that the Yamahas sound fine in class AB. I also think the preamps are good, particularly the phono stages. A tube preamp would be nice though. My class A capable Yamaha M-60. It is a nice sounding amp in either mode. To bad they got the power meters off of a Monkey-Wards rack system!
That is a cool looking SET amp (6SN7, 2A3?). What is it?
Dave
The amp is a slight variant on the JE Labs "Simple 45/2A3" design.
See link below for the original design.
all the best,
mrh
