In Reply to: RE: Yamaha CA-1010 integrated I'm in love :-) posted by 4everyoung on September 11, 2016 at 21:28:51
... since I bought a CA-610II in 1978 (which I still have).
I am a bit of a Yamaha fanboy,so I am not totally objective, though.
I think this line of Yamaha integrateds (and the previous, CA-*00 line) were/are very accurate and also very musical, even by modern standards -- far superior to most of the 'big name' Japanese massmarket hardware of their era.
Aesthetics are funny things, aren't they? The Yamaha hardware of the mid/late 1970s is beautifully elegant (as was much of the hifi hardware of the era) -- but think about what cars, clothes, furniture, etc. was like, ca. 1978!
$450 sounds pricey, though -- is it fully rehab'bed? If not, I'd look for a more cost-effective example of the breed. Just my thoughts on the matter.
all the best,

Here's the ad, description and a few more pictures. The description says the unit had a "light cleaning by a technician" about a year ago.

It's a nice amp but the price seems high. Do a search. I suspect you can do better.

The sound of these Yamahas is so clear, and I love the dynamics. I do have a CA-1000 and CR-600 but have never hooked these up to compare the sound from a year earlier.
I did notice in the eBay completed listings that the CA-1010 sells for $350 in working condition but needing some cleaning of the pots. I was fortunate to find my 2020 on Craigslist, but there are people on this asylum that have purchased this receiver for pratically nothing.
